Tomcats Screaming Outside
''Tomcats Screaming Outside'' is the only solo studio album by British musician Roland Orzabal from the band Tears for Fears, and was released on 2 April 2001. Although Orzabal had made two albums solely with Tears for Fears moniker in the 1990s (following the departure of bandmate Curt Smith), ''Elemental'' and ''Raoul and the Kings of Spain'', this was the first recording to be released under his own name. Background In a 2000 interview, Orzabal commented on his influences for the album: "I started out with an absolute concrete vision of where I wanted to go so I started with a very different rhythm approach, with drum and bass/jungle...and I ended up with something that wasn't the original plan." Nicholas D'Virgilio (born November 12, 1968), often referred to as NDV, is an American drummer, singer and guitarist, best known as a member of the progressive rock band Spock's Beard. He was also one of two drummers chosen to replace Phil Collins in Genesis on the ''Calling All Stations'' album. He has also done session work with many artists including Tears for Fears and Mystery, and is an official member of Big Big Train. Career D'Virgilio was the drummer in Spock's Beard since the band began in the early 1990s. After Neal Morse left in 2002, D'Virgilio took over on lead vocals and became their frontman during live performances. ''Raoul and the Kings of Spain'' is the fifth studio album by British pop rock band Tears for Fears, released on 10 October 1995 by Epic Records. Like the band's previous album, ''Elemental'' (1993), it is essentially a solo effort by Roland Orzabal — neither album being made with the involvement of Curt Smith, who had left the band by that time. Orzabal's primary musical collaborator for ''Raoul and the Kings of Spain'' was Alan Griffiths, who acted in the same role for ''Elemental'', co-writing most of the album with Orzabal. ''Raoul and the Kings of Spain'' also retained producer Tim Palmer from ''Elemental''. Curt Smith (born 24 June 1961) is a British singer, songwriter, musician, record producer, and co-founding member of the pop rock band Tears for Fears along with childhood friend Roland Orzabal. Smith plays bass guitar, has co-written several of the band's songs, and sings lead vocals on the hits "Mad World", "Pale Shelter", "Change", " The Way You Are", "Everybody Wants to Rule the World", and "Advice for the Young at Heart". After his departure from Tears for Fears in 1991, Smith pursued a solo career and released his debut studio album, ''Soul on Board'', in 1993.
