Tom Van Den Nieuwenhuijzen
Tom J.H. van den Nieuwenhuijzen-Wittens (born 18 July 1982) is a Dutch politician, who held a seat in the House of Representatives. He is a member of the green political party GroenLinks. After receiving an engineering degree, Van den Nieuwenhuijzen started working in the construction sector. He served as a member of the Eindhoven municipal council between 2010 and 2016, a period during which he was named Mister Gay Netherlands. He subsequently worked as an alderman for the municipality Son en Breugel until 2019. He was appointed member of the House in 2020 and lost re-election in 2021. During his political career, Van den Nieuwenhuijzen focussed on sustainability and the acceptance of the LGBT community. The House of Representatives (, pronounced ; commonly referred to as the ', literally "Second Chamber of the States General") is the lower house of the bicameral parliament of the Netherlands, the States General, the other one being the Senate. It has 150 seats, which are filled through elections using party-list proportional representation. Tilburg () is a city and municipality in the Netherlands, in the southern province of North Brabant. 2010 Dutch Municipal Elections
The Dutch municipal elections of 2010 were held on Wednesday 3 March in most municipalities in the Netherlands. This election determined the composition of the municipal councils for the following four years. The elections were held a few weeks after the fall of the Fourth Balkenende cabinet. Nearly 24% of the vote went to local parties and independent candidates, more than any national political party. The Labour Party remained the most popular party overall, despite a significant decline in their vote share. The Party for Freedom only contested the cities of Almere and The Hague, where it became the largest and second-largest party respectively in both cities. Support for the CDA also decreased, while the VVD made moderate gains and Democrats 66 nearly doubled their support. ''Eindhovens Dagblad'' is a daily Dutch newspaper based in the city of Eindhoven. In 2017 it had a circulation of about 80,000. History ''Eindhovensch Dagblad'' first appeared on 23 December 1911.
