Tom Vrolijk
Ton Vrolijk (born 1958) is a track cyclist from the Netherlands. He won the bronze medal at the 1982 UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Leicester in the men's tandam together with Sjaak Pieters. Track cycling is a bicycle racing sport usually held on specially built banked tracks or velodromes using purpose-designed track bicycles. History Track cycling has been around since at least 1870. When track cycling was in its infancy, it was held on velodromes similar to the ones used today. These velodromes consisted of two straights and slightly banked turns, though they varied more in length and material than the modern 250m track. One appeal of indoor track racing was that spectators could be easily controlled, and hence an entrance fee could be charged, making track racing a lucrative sport. Early track races attracted crowds of up to 2,000 people. Indoor tracks also enabled year-round cycling for the first time. The main early centers for track racing in Britain were Birmingham, Sheffield, Liverpool, Manchester and London. UCI Track Cycling World Championships
The UCI Track Cycling World Championships are the set of world championship events for the various disciplines and distances in track cycling. They are regulated by the Union Cycliste Internationale. Before 1900, they were administered by the UCI's predecessor, the International Cycling Association (ICA). Current events include: time trial, keirin, individual pursuit, team pursuit, points race, scratch race, sprint, team sprint, omnium and madison. Women's events are generally shorter than men's. Sjaak Pieters
Klaas Pieter "Sjaak" Pieters (born 22 July 1957) is a retired Dutch track cyclist who was active between 1976 and 1985. He competed at the 1976 Summer Olympics in the sprint, but failed to reach the final. He won two bronze medals in the tandem at world championships, in 1978 and 1982. He was a national champion in this event in 1977, 1978 and 1982–1985. Pieters is married to Olympic gymnast Ans Dekker. His brother Peter and niece Amy are also Olympic cyclists.
