Tom Slater (baseball)
Thomas Slater (born April 6, 1968) is an American professional baseball coach. He was the assistant hitting coach for the New York Mets of Major League Baseball (MLB) from 2018 to 2021. Early life Slater graduated from St. Christopher's School in Richmond, Virginia, and the Virginia Military Institute (VMI). He played college baseball for the VMI Keydets as a third baseman for four years. Career He coached baseball at St. Christopher’s School in 1991, and served on the coaching staffs of the Marshall Thundering Herd, VMI, and Auburn Tigers. Slater was the head coach of VMI's baseball team from 2001 through 2003. He served as an assistant coach for the Florida Gators in 2004. He coached the Auburn Tigers from 2005 through 2008. Third Baseman
A third baseman, abbreviated 3B, is the player in baseball or softball whose responsibility is to defend the area nearest to third base — the third of four bases a baserunner must touch in succession to score a run. In the scoring system used to record defensive plays, the third baseman is assigned the number 5. Third base is known as the "hot corner", because the third baseman is often the infielder who stands closest to the batter—roughly 90–120 feet away, but even closer if a bunt is expected. Gulf Coast League
The Florida Complex League (FCL) is a rookie-level Minor League Baseball league that operates in Florida, United States. Before 2021, it was known as the Gulf Coast League (GCL). Together with the Arizona Complex League (ACL), it forms the lowest rung on the North American minor-league ladder. FCL teams play at the minor league spring training complexes of their parent Major League Baseball (MLB) clubs and are owned by those parent clubs. Admission is not charged, and no concessions are operated at the teams' games. Every Grapefruit League team fields at least one team in the league. Night games are commonly played in the spring training stadium, although games may also be played at the team's practice fields. Kevin Howard
Kevin C. Howard (born June 25, 1981) is an American former professional baseball infielder. He was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 5th round of the 2002 Major League Baseball draft. Howard served as the assistant hitting coach for the New York Mets of Major League Baseball (MLB) in 2021. Amateur career Howard attended Westlake High School. In 1999, his senior campaign, Howard was named the ''Los Angeles Times'' Ventura County Player of the Year. Howard also played football at Westlake. Howard committed to attend the University of Miami. Howard was drafted in the 22nd round of the 1999 Major League Baseball draft by the San Diego Padres, but did not sign and attended college. Pat Roessler
Patrick Alan Roessler (born December 27, 1959 in Phoenix, AZ) is an American professional baseball coach. He is currently the Assistant Hitting Coach for the Washington Nationals. He was formerly the Assistant Hitting Coach for the New York Mets from 2015-2017 & Hitting Coach in 2018. Biography Roessler attended the University of Arizona, and played college baseball for the Arizona Wildcats baseball team. Roessler was a member of the 1980 College World Series champions. He served as the team's captain during his senior year, in 1982. Roessler served as the hitting coach for the Montreal Expos in 2000 and 2001 Wearing #6. He joined the New York Yankees as their director of player development in 2005, and served in the role until 2014. The Florida State League (FSL) is a Minor League Baseball league based in the state of Florida. The Trenton Thunder are a collegiate summer baseball team of the MLB Draft League. They are located in Trenton, New Jersey, and play their home games at Trenton Thunder Ballpark.
