Tom Sito
Tom Sito (born May 19, 1956) is an American animator, animation historian and teacher. He is currently a Professor at USC's School of Cinematic Arts in the Animation Division. In 1998, Sito was included by ''Animation Magazine'' in their list of the One Hundred Most Important People in Animation.''Animation Magazine'', November 1998. Early life Tom Sito was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, the son of a fireman. Sito first began studying animation while attending cartooning classes at the High School of Art and Design. He continued his animation studies at The School of Visual Arts (SVA) with Howard Beckerman, cartooning under Harvey Kurtzman, Gil Miret, Howard Beckerman and Robert Beverly Hale. Sito graduated from SVA in 1977 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Media Arts. He met his wife, Pat, at SVA and the two were married on January 4, 1980. Robert Beverly Hale (1901–November 14, 1985) was an artist, curator of American paintings at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and instructor of artistic anatomy at the Art Students League of New York and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art. The term independent animation refers to animated shorts and feature films produced outside a major national animation industry. A good portion of the work is viewed in animation festivals and private screen rooms along with schools that produce animation through instruction. The significance of independent animation is as important as studio fare. John Canemaker
John Cannizzaro Jr. (born 1943), better known as John Canemaker, is an American independent animator, animation historian, author, teacher and lecturer. In 1980, he began teaching and developing the animation program at New York University, Tisch School of the Arts', Kanbar Institute of Film and Television Department. Since 1988 he has directed the program and is currently a tenured full professor. From 2001-2002 he was Acting Chair of the NYU Undergraduate Film and Television Department. In 2006, his film '' The Moon and the Son: An Imagined Conversation'', a 28-minute animated piece about Canemaker's relationship with his father, won the Academy Award for best animated short. Arthur Harold Babitsky (October 8, 1907 – March 4, 1992), better known as Art Babbitt, was an American animator, best known for his work at Walt Disney Animation Studios. He received over 80 awards as an animation director and animator, and also developed the character of Goofy. Babbitt worked as an animator or animation director on films such as ''Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs'', ''Pinocchio'', ''Fantasia'' and ''Dumbo'', among others.
