Tom Shaw (Iowa Politician)
Tom W. Shaw (born 1961) is the Iowa State Representative from the 10th District. A Republican, he has served in the Iowa House of Representatives since 2011. Shaw was born in Spencer, Iowa and raised in Laurens, Iowa, where he currently resides. He has an A.A. in criminal justice from Metropolitan Community College in Omaha, Nebraska. He served in the United States Navy from 1982-2002. He serves in the Laurens Police Department and has served as Chief of Police. , Shaw serves on several committees in the Iowa House - the Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Veterans Affairs committees. He also serves as the vice chair of the Ethics committee and of the Public Safety committee. Dolores Mertz
Dolores M. Mertz (born May 30, 1928) was the Iowa State Representative from the 8th District. She served in the Iowa House of Representatives from 1989 through 2011. Born in Bancroft, Iowa to John and Gertrude (née Erickson) Shay, she earned her AA from Briar Cliff College (now Briar Cliff University). Mertz served on several committees in the Iowa House – the Judiciary committee; the Natural Resources committee; the Transportation committee; and the Agriculture committee, where she is chair. She also serves on the Agriculture and Natural Resources Appropriations Subcommittee. Her political experience includes twenty-five years as Iowa Democratic Party, Democrat precinct leader and 13 years on the Kossuth County, Iowa, Kossuth County Central Committee. Mertz was re-elected in 2006 with 8,142 votes, running unopposed.
