Tom Nolan (Irish Politician)
Thomas Nolan (27 July 1921 – 17 August 1992) was an Irish Fianna Fáil politician who served as Minister for Labour from 1980 to 1981 and Minister of State at the Department of Health and Social Welfare from 1979 to 1980. He served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Carlow–Kilkenny constituency from 1965 to 1982. Life and work Nolan was born in Myshall, County Carlow in 1921. He was educated at the De La Salle College in Muine Bheag, County Carlow, and joined the Irish Defence Forces shortly after his education. He first held political office in 1960, when he was elected to Carlow County Council. The following year he was nominated by the Taoiseach, Seán Lemass, to the 10th Seanad. Nolan was first elected to Dáil Éireann as a Fianna Fáil TD for the Carlow–Kilkenny constituency at the 1965 general election. Tom Nolan (Australian Rules Footballer)
Thomas Patrick Nolan (11 December 1876 – 27 May 1930) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Fitzroy in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Nolan joined Fitzroy for the 1899 VFL season and made his senior debut in Round 10, against Geelong. After one more match in the seniors, in Round 11, Nolan returned to the reserves and did not play another senior game. Nolan become a lawyer and was also a state champion race walker. His brothers Bernie, Jerry and Herb also played football in the VFL. Tom Nolan (footballer, Born 1909)
Thomas Gerard Nolan (13 June 1909 – 1969) was an English footballer, noted for his powerful cannonball shots. He was Port Vale's most prolific forward of the 1930s. Career Nolan played for Preston North End and Manchester Central, before joining Port Vale in October 1931. He hit 11 goals in 21 games to become the club's top-scorer, helping the "Valiants" to remain in the Second Division on goal average. Nolan then scored eight goals in 17 appearances in 1932–33, including a hat-trick in a 4–1 win over Plymouth Argyle at The Old Recreation Ground on 29 April. In the 1933–34 season he scored 22 goals in 32 appearances, including hat-tricks in home wins over Bury, Hull City, and Nottingham Forest. He was the club's top-scorer for a second successive season in 1934–35, hitting 16 goals in 40 games. However, he was transferred to Bradford Park Avenue in July 1935. Tom Nolan (hurler)
Tom (Tomásin) Nolan (born Clandouglas, Lixnaw, County Kerry) was a hurler from County Kerry. He played with the Kerry and the Crotta O'Neill's club. Nolan was at his best at midfield during Crotta's glorious period in the 1940s and early 1950s. During that time Crotta O'Neill's were one of the strongest sides in Kerry hurling. He won six Kerry Senior Hurling Championships. Nolan won the first of his County Championship medals in 1943, when Crotta, defeated Kenmare in the final. The Crotta team went on to complete three-in-a-row in 1944 and 1945 and took further titles in 1947, 1950 and 1951, with Nolan at mid-field in five of the victories. He was captain in 1950 and '51 teams. Nolan went on to play in further county finals in 1952 and 1957 but Crotta were defeated in both. Thomas Brennan Nolan (May 21, 1901 – August 2, 1992) was an American geologist who was director of the United States Geological Survey (USGS) from 1956 to 1965. The mineral nolanite is named in his honor and he was an elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the United States National Academy of Sciences, and the American Philosophical Society. He was generally known as Tom Nolan. Early life Nolan was born in Greenfield, Massachusetts in 1901. He was educated at New Haven, Connecticut then studied Metallurgy at Yale University, graduating with a BS in 1921. He continued studying at Yale and received a PhD in Geology in 1924.
