Tom Mulroy
Thomas "Soccer Tom" Mulroy is a soccer executive, industry entrepreneur, and retired American professional soccer defender who played for 13 years in the North American Soccer League, Major Indoor Soccer League, United Soccer League and American Indoor Soccer Association. Tom served as an official spokesperson for the 1994 FIFA World Cup. Player Mulroy grew up in New York playing in the Blau-Weiss Gottschee youth system. He attended Ulster County Community College where he was a 1974 and 1975 National Junior College All American. In 1993, he was inducted into the NJCAA Hall of Fame. In 1976, he played for the Miami Toros of the North American Soccer League. In 1977 Mulroy scored a goal for the, newly relocated from Miami, Fort Lauderdale Strikers in a February indoor match before moving on to become a defensive midfielder for the Cleveland Cobras of the American Soccer League. North American Soccer League (2011–2017)
The North American Soccer League (NASL) was a professional men's soccer league based in the United States. The league was named for, but had no connection to, the original North American Soccer League. The later NASL was founded in 2009, and began play in 2011 with eight teams. From 2013 through 2017, the NASL used a split-season schedule running from April to early November, with a four-week break in July. The spring and fall champions, along with the two teams with best combined spring/fall records met in a four-team single-elimination tournament known as ''The Championship''. The winner of the final claimed the Soccer Bowl trophy. Fort Lauderdale Strikers (2006–2016)
The Fort Lauderdale Strikers were an American professional soccer team based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida founded in 2006, that last played in the North American Soccer League (NASL), the second tier of the American soccer pyramid in 2016. The majority of their home games were played in Lockhart Stadium. The Strikers were named after the original Strikers, who played in the old North American Soccer League from 1977 to 1983. The team was known as Miami FC from 2006 until 2011 before re-branding as the Strikers in 2011. They had an in-state rivalry with the Tampa Bay Rowdies. Jim Tietjens
Jim Tietjens is a retired American soccer goalkeeper who played professionally in the North American Soccer League, Major Indoor Soccer League and United Soccer League. Tietjens graduated from Oakville High School. He then attended St. Louis University where he played on the men's soccer team from 1978 and 1979. He was inducted into the Billikens Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1980, he turned professional with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers of the North American Soccer League. He spent three season with the Strikers as a backup to Jan van Beveren except for two games during his rookie season when injuries put him in the nets. He suffered a knee injury requiring surgery during a February 1983 indoor tournament and remained a backup for the 1983 season. In November 1983, he signed with the Kansas City Comets of the Major Indoor Soccer League.
