Tom McDonald (winemaker)
Thomas Bayne McDonald (12 September 1907 – 26 March 1987) was a pioneering New Zealand winemaker. He was born at Greenmeadows, New Zealand, on 12 September 1907. In the 1974 New Year Honours, McDonald was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire, for services to winemaking. McDonald's name lives on through Montana Wines Brancott Estate is the brand adopted since 2010 by Pernod Ricard for New Zealand's largest wine producer, formerly Montana Wines, which now operates as the New Zealand division of Pernod Ricard Winemakers. Greenmeadows, New Zealand
Greenmeadows is a suburb of the city of Napier, in the Hawke's Bay region of New Zealand's eastern North Island. It is part of the Taradale ward of Napier and was part of the earlier Taradale Borough. Demographics Greenmeadows, comprising the statistical areas of Greenmeadows West, Greenmeadows Central and Greenmeadows South, had a population of 5,562 at the 2018 New Zealand census, an increase of 171 people (3.2%) since the 2013 census, and an increase of 417 people (8.1%) since the 2006 census. There were 2,337 households. There were 2,526 males and 3,033 females, giving a sex ratio of 0.83 males per female, with 840 people (15.1%) aged under 15 years, 822 (14.8%) aged 15 to 29, 2,256 (40.6%) aged 30 to 64, and 1,644 (29.6%) aged 65 or older. Ethnicities were 89.1% European/Pākehā, 11.9% Māori, 1.6% Pacific peoples, 5.1% Asian, and 1.4% other ethnicities (totals add to more than 100% since people could identify with multiple ethnicities). Order Of The British Empire
The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. It was established on 4 June 1917 by King George V and comprises five classes across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a knight if male or dame if female. There is also the related British Empire Medal, whose recipients are affiliated with, but not members of, the order. Recommendations for appointments to the Order of the British Empire were originally made on the nomination of the United Kingdom, the self-governing Dominions of the Empire (later Commonwealth) and the Viceroy of India. Montana Wines
Brancott Estate is the brand adopted since 2010 by Pernod Ricard for New Zealand's largest wine producer, formerly Montana Wines, which now operates as the New Zealand division of Pernod Ricard Winemakers. The name comes from its Brancott winery in Blenheim, and was chosen to reduce confusion in the United States market with wines from the state of Montana. The winery has been significant enough throughout New Zealand's wine history that the ''Montana'' name is still used on domestic labelling due to its strong brand recognition.
