Thomas Joseph Kirby (December 21, 1904 – November 25, 1967) was an American boxer who competed in the 1924 Summer Olympics. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts. 1924 Summer Olympics
The 1924 Summer Olympics (french: Jeux olympiques d'été de 1924), officially the Games of the VIII Olympiad (french: Jeux de la VIIIe olympiade) and also known as Paris 1924, were an international multi-sport event held in Paris, France. The opening ceremony was held on 5 July, but some competitions had already started on 4 May. The Games were the second to be hosted by Paris (after 1900), making it the first city to host the Olympics twice. The selection process for the 1924 Summer Olympics consisted of six bids, and Paris was selected ahead of Amsterdam, Barcelona, Los Angeles, Prague, and Rome. The selection was made at the 20th IOC Session in Lausanne in 1921. The cost of these Games was estimated to be 10,000,000 F. With total receipts at 5,496,610F, the Olympics resulted in a hefty loss despite crowds that reached up to 60,000 in number daily. Sverre Sørsdal
Sverre Sørsdal (5 August 1900 – 21 March 1996) was a Norwegian boxer who competed in the 1920 Summer Olympics, in the 1924 Summer Olympics, and in the 1928 Summer Olympics. Sørsdal was born in Hamar, Norway. He trained as a medical student while pursuing his boxing career, boxing for Akademisk Boxe-Klub. As a doctor he later attained the position of head of department at Vardø Hospital in Finnmark. He was awarded the King's Medal of Merit (''Kongens fortjenstmedalje'') upon his retirement. In 1920 he won the silver medal in the light heavyweight class after losing in the final to Eddie Eagan. Four years later he won the bronze medal in the same weight division when he won the bronze medal bout against Carlo Saraudi. In the 1928 Summer Olympics he finished fourth in the heavyweight competition.
