Tom Johnson (footballer, Born 1911)
Tom Johnson (4 May 1911 – 19 August 1983) was an English footballer who played as a defender. He made over 250 appearances for Sheffield United, the club which his father and brother also played for. Career Despite his family connections, Johnson had been playing for his local side Ecclesfield United as an amateur when he was signed by Sheffield United in September 1928, but remained on part-time terms. Despite making his league debut in March 1930 in a home game against Bolton Wanderers, Johnson was seen as a slow developer and had to wait until the 1934–35 season before he could begin to establish himself in the first-team, only becoming a full-time professional in 1935. Having finally established himself, Johnson grew in confidence and missed very few games in the following seasons, appearing in the 1936 FA Cup Final, and being awarded the club captaincy in 1938 and leading United to promotion a year later. Ecclesfield is a village and civil parish in the City of Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England, about 4 miles (6 km) north of Sheffield City Centre. Bolton (, locally ) is a large town in Greater Manchester in North West England, formerly a part of Lancashire. The Royal Air Force (RAF) is the United Kingdom's air and space force. Harry Johnson (4 January 1899 – May 1981) was an English footballer who played as a striker for Sheffield United and Mansfield Town. Career Sheffield United Johnson played for Sheffield United between 1916 and 1931. He is Sheffield United's all-time top goalscorer with 201 goals. William Harrison Johnson (4 January 1876 – 17 July 1940) was an English professional association football, footballer. Holgate School, Barnsley
Holgate School was a state school in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England. It was closed in 2012, when it was merged with The Kingstone School to form Horizon Community College. After Holgate closed, it was demolished and the site was turned into a car park for Horizon Community College. Admissions The school was awarded the status of Sports College in 2005 for its attention to sporting achievements. History Holgate School was founded in 1546 in Hemsworth by Robert Holgate, the Archbishop of York. In 1888 it was re-organised and moved to Barnsley, South Yorkshire. The grammar school had around 850 boys and moved to its present site in 1912. The school has now closed due to the conjoining of the two Barnsley schools Holgate and Kingstone, coming together to form Horizon Community College.
