Tom Gilmore Jr.
Thomas John George Gilmore (born 8 May 1946) is an Australian politician. Early life Gilmore was born in Mareeba. His father, Tom Gilmore Sr., had been a federal and state Country Party politician. Politics Gilmore served on Mareeba Shire Council from 1982 to 1987. In 1986 he was elected as the National Party member for Tablelands in the Queensland Legislative Assembly. In 1992 he moved to the front bench as Shadow Minister for Minerals and Energy, a portfolio he held until the Coalition A coalition is a group formed when two or more people or groups temporarily work together to achieve a common goal. Electoral District Of Tablelands
Tablelands was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. Prior to its abolition, it encompassed towns on the Atherton Tablelands west of Cairns, including Mareeba, Atherton, Ravenshoe, Chillagoe and Mount Molloy. The seat was won by the One Nation Party from the National Party at the 1998 state election. Shaun Nelson, the elected candidate, departed the party and contested the 2001 election as an Independent, losing to One Nation's new candidate Rosa Lee Long. The Shire of Mareeba is a local government area at the base of Cape York Peninsula in Far North Queensland, inland from Cairns. The shire, administered from the town of Mareeba, covered an area of , and existed as a local government entity from 1879 until 2008, when it amalgamated with several councils in the Atherton Tableland area to become the Tablelands Region. Pauline Hanson's One Nation (PHON or ONP), also known as One Nation or One Nation Party, is a right-wing populist political party in Australia. It is led by Pauline Hanson. One Nation had electoral success in the late 1990s, before suffering an extended decline after 2001.
