Thomas Davey (governor)
Thomas Davey (1758 – 2 May 1823) was a New South Wales Marine and member of the First Fleet to New South Wales, who went on to become the second Lieutenant Governor of Van Diemen's Land. Early life Davey was born in England in 1758, the son of a mill owner. There are no records of his childhood or early youth. In 1775 Great Britain declared war on her American colonies; three years later Davey decided to enter the military with a view to serving overseas. Strenuous lobbying by Davey's father secured political patronage for a commission as second lieutenant in His Majesty's Marine Forces, and Davey was posted aboard in this capacity in 1779. In the following year he transferred to the 50-gun frigate and took part in attacks on French forces in the West Indies. He was promoted to first lieutenant in mid-1780 but fell ill shortly afterward and was invalided back to England. Thomas Davey (New Zealand Politician)
Thomas Henry Davey (1856 – 5 April 1934) was a New Zealand Member of Parliament for the electorates of City of Christchurch and Christchurch East. He is regarded as a member of the Liberal Party, but was critical of aspects of the party and its leadership. Early life Davey was born in Liskeard in south east Cornwall, England. He learned the trade of printing. With his parents, he came to New Zealand in 1874, arriving in Wellington on the ''Douglass''. They lived in Feilding (where he worked as a saw miller), Wellington (where he worked for the Government printer) and then Christchurch. He was a printer for the ''Lyttelton Times'' newspaper and became President of the Typographical Union and Vice-President of the Trades and Labour Council. Thomas James Davey (1 December 1844 – 31 December 1928), commonly referred to as T. J. Davey, was Lord Mayor of Melbourne 1910–1912. Biography Davey was born in Bristol, England, and educated there at the Fairland Lodge school. He moved to Australia, arriving in Melbourne on his birthday 1 December 1857. He worked as a storekeeper at Sale, then returned to Melbourne, setting himself up as a public accountant. He was later joined by James Henry Cole. They founded the accountancy firm of Davey and Cole in 1876, became Davey, Cole & Flack at Elizabeth Street in 1880; Davey, Flack and Co. in 1884 and Davey, Balding, and Co. of Lombard Buildings, 17 Queen Street, Melbourne in 1905. He remained with that firm until his death. Thomas Joseph Davey (born September 11, 1973) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. At 6'7", Davey was a right-handed relief pitcher for three years with the Toronto Blue Jays (), Seattle Mariners (1999), and San Diego Padres (–). Career Davey was drafted by the Blue Jays in the 25th round of the 1994 amateur draft. In December , the Baltimore Orioles claimed Davey in the minor league draft, but returned him to the Blue Jays three months later due to his lackluster performance overall.
