Frenzal Rhomb are an Australian punk rock band that formed in 1992 in Sydney. Three of the group's albums have entered the top 20 on the ARIA Charts, ARIA Albums Chart: ''A Man's Not a Camel'' (1999), ''Hi-Vis High Tea'' (2017) and ''Smoko at the Pet Food Factory'' (2011). ''Hi-Vis High Tea'' reached 9th position in the charts. The group has supported Australian tours by The Offspring, Bad Religion, NOFX, and Blink-182. Smoko At The Pet Food Factory
''Smoko at the Pet Food Factory'' is the eighth studio album by Australian punk band Frenzal Rhomb. It was released in Australia on Shock Records on 19 August 2011. The album's title refers to singer Jay Whalley's recording studio located in the Sydney suburb of Marrickville, which is named 'the Pet Food Factory''. (The studio's name refers to his tongue-in-cheek view that the studio does not create music of very high ''quality'', but it does produce a large ''quantity'' of recordings.) During the demo sessions for the album, the band spent a large amount of time sitting on the balcony outside the studio having a ' smoko break', rather than actually recording the tracks. By contrast, the recording sessions with producer Bill Stevenson at The Blasting Room in Fort Collins, Colorado were tracked at a rapid pace, with multiple parts of the recording process happening simultaneously. Big Day Out
The Big Day Out (BDO) was an annual music festival that was held in five Australian cities: Sydney, Melbourne, Gold Coast, Adelaide, and Perth, as well as Auckland, New Zealand. The festival was held during summer, typically in January of each year but was sometimes held as late as early February in some cities including Perth. The event was conceptualised after the Violent Femmes announced a tour of Australia. Promoters Ken West and Vivian Lees sought another act as middle-level support for the band's tour. They succeeded in securing Nirvana to play the Sydney leg at the Hordern Pavilion. The Big Day Out debuted on the 1992 Australia Day public holiday in Sydney and eventually expanded to Melbourne, Adelaide, and Perth the following year. Augustin-Jean Fresnel (10 May 1788 – 14 July 1827) was a French civil engineer and physicist whose research in optics led to the almost unanimous acceptance of the wave theory of light, excluding any remnant of Isaac Newton, Newton's corpuscular theory of light, corpuscular theory, from the late 1830s until the end of the 19th century. A Fresnel rhomb is an optical prism that introduces a 90° phase difference between two perpendicular components of polarization, by means of two total internal reflections. If the incident beam is linearly polarized at 45° to the plane of incidence and reflection, the emerging beam is circularly polarized, and vice versa. If the incident beam is linearly polarized at some other inclination, the emerging beam is elliptically polarized with one principal axis in the plane of reflection, and vice versa.
