Tom Crane (footballer)
Tom Crane (21 December 1921 – 20 May 2010) was an Australian rules footballer who played with South Melbourne and North Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Crane, a defender, was never a regular fixture in the South Melbourne team, playing just seven games in four seasons at the club. The Sydney Swans are a professional Australian rules football club based in Sydney, New South Wales. The men's team competes in the Australian Football League (AFL), and the women's team in the AFL Women's (AFLW). The Swans also field a reserves men's team in the Victorian Football League (VFL). North Melbourne Football Club
The North Melbourne Football Club, nicknamed the Kangaroos, is a professional Australian rules football club. The men's team competes in the Australian Football League (AFL), and the women's team in the AFL Women's (AFLW). The Kangaroos also field a reserves men's team in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Founded in the suburb of North Melbourne in 1869 and based at the Arden Street Oval, it is the 4th oldest club in the competition and one of the oldest surviving clubs in the world. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. 1945 VFL Season
The 1945 VFL season was the 49th season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured twelve clubs, ran from 21 April until 29 September, and comprised a 20-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top four clubs. The premiership was won by the Carlton Football Club for the seventh time, after it defeated by 28 points in the 1945 VFL Grand Final. Premiership season In 1945, the VFL competition consisted of twelve teams of 18 on-the-field players each, plus one substitute player, known as the 19th man. A player could be substituted for any reason; however, once substituted, a player could not return to the field of play under any circumstances. John Edward Crane (26 August 1913 – 5 January 1974) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Essendon, Richmond and North Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Len Crane
Len Crane (7 February 1928 – 24 May 2006) was an Australian rules footballer who played for South Melbourne and Hawthorn in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Crane made his VFL debut in 1947 with South Melbourne and played as a half back flanker. After four seasons with South Melbourne he moved to Hawthorn for the 1951 VFL season where he was used at full back and went on to represent Victoria in interstate football in 1953 and 1954. In 1954 Crane finished equal fourth in the Brownlow Medal count. From 1958 to 1961, Porta coached Mordialloc in the Victorian Football Association.
