Tom Costello (born 1866 – unknown) was an American jockey in the sport of Thoroughbred horse racing who won three American Classic Races. Biography As a young boy, Costello lived at the New York House of Refuge, a place for juveniles convicted of crimes or adjudicated as vagrants. He was one of a number of small boys given a place to live and work at the Long Island Thoroughbred racehorse farm of George L. Lorillard. There, Costello was given an education in a classroom built at the stables by Lorillard, who encouraged their studies and gave prizes to leading students. Along with the other boys, Tom Costello helped maintain the stables and learned to ride horses. After a five-year apprenticeship, they were given a chance to become professional jockeys. Costello was highly successful and became wealthy from riding. According to an 1881 newspaper report, by age fifteen he was worth $30,000. Thomas Costello (hurler)
Thomas Costello (born 1978) is an Irish hurler who played as a right corner-back for the Tipperary senior team. Born in Cappawhite, County Tipperary, Thomas Costello first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Tipperary minor team, before later joining the under-21 side. He made his senior debut during the 2001 league. Costello went on to become a regular member of the team over the next few years, and won one All-Ireland medal, one Munster medal and one National Hurling League medal. At club level Costello is a three-time divisional medallist with Cappawhite. Captain U21 team to County A title in 1999. Throughout his career Costello made 17 championship appearances. He retired from inter-county hurling following the conclusion of the 2004 championship. He represented Renfrew Southin the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1926 to 1929 as a Conservative member. Thomas Joseph Costello
Thomas Joseph Costello (February 23, 1929 – February 15, 2019) was an American prelate of the Catholic Church who served as an auxiliary bishop of Roman Catholic Diocese of Syracuse. Born in Camden, New York, Costello was ordained to the priesthood on June 5, 1954, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and served as a priest for 24 years before being consecrated a bishop on March 13, 1978. In addition to serving as auxiliary bishop of Syracuse, he was also named Titular Bishop of 'Precides." In the years before being elevated to bishop, Costello received the title of monsignor from Pope Paul VI in 1965. He retired on March 23, 2004. He died on February 15, 2019.
