Tolly Burkan, also known as Bruce Burkan, (born May 17, 1948 in New York City) is a firewalking spokesman. During the 1970s, Burkan created a firewalking class and began teaching firewalking to the general public. In the 1980s, he started working with large corporations and began training instructors. He has written eight books that have been translated into 15 languages, including ''Extreme Spirituality'', ''Let It Be Easy'', and ''Dying to Live: From Despair and Death to Freedom and Joy''. William Tolly
Colonel William Tolly (1715–1784) was an officer of the British East India Company, who later settled down in Calcutta, noted for creating Tolly's Nullah. Life-sketch He served as officer of British East India Company and retired as a colonel. He settled down near Calcutta and decided to dig out an old channel of Adi Ganga (a branch of Hooghly River) at his own cost to make it navigable for ships. This canal ''( nullah )'' was dug out by him in years 1775-76 became operational in 1777 and came to be known as Tolly's Nullah. He de-silted, deepened and opened this old channel as a water way connecting the Calcutta Port to the rivers of the eastern Bengal such as Bidyadhari and Matla making it a part of Calcutta and Eastern Canals, extending over a length of 1,127 miles, of which 47 miles was length of Tolly's Nullah. Barclay de Tolly () is the name of a Baltic German noble family of Scottish origin (Clan Barclay). During the time of the Revolution of 1688 in Britain, the family migrated to Swedish Livonia from Towy (Towie) in Aberdeenshire. Its subsequent generations became a German-speaking family in Livonia, which became part of the Russian Empire after the 1700–1721 Great Northern War. Weinhold Gotthard Barclay de Tolly (; 1734–1781) was a '' poruchik'' of the Russian Army and a descendant of one of the burgomasters of Riga. He was the first of his family to be accepted into the Russian nobility. Prince Michael Andreas Barclay de Tolly (german: Fürst Michael Andreas Barclay de Tolly; baptised – ) was an Imperial Russian soldier of Baltic German and Scottish origin, who was commander-in-chief and Minister of War of the Russian Empire during Napoleon's invasion in 1812 and the War of the Sixth Coalition. Barclay implemented a number of reforms during this time that improved supply system in the army, doubled the number of army troops, and implemented new combat training principles. He was also the Governor-General of Finland. He was born into a German-speaking noble family from Livonia, who were of Scottish descent.
