Tokugawa Fūunroku Hachidai Shōgun Yoshimune
is a television program broadcast on January 2, 2008, on the TV Tokyo network in Japan. It was the 28th in the annual ''Shinshun Wide Jidaigeki'' series. Ten hours long, it began at 2:00 p.m. and ran until midnight. The production stars Masatoshi Nakamura as Tokugawa Yoshimune, eighth Tokugawa shogun. Asahi Uchida portrays Ten'ichi-bō, a youth portrayed as a son of the young Yoshimune. Ken Ishiguro is Ōoka Tadasuke. Yoshimune's mother, Oyuri, is Rino Katase. Kinokuniya Bunzaemon
Kinokuniya Bunzaemon (紀伊国屋文左衛門) (1669 – 1734) was a Japanese merchant of the Edo period, specializing in citrus, lumber, and salmon, among other goods. He enjoyed the favoritism and protection of shogunal advisor Yanagisawa Yoshiyasu and shogunal minister of finances Ogura Shigehide, and made a sizeable fortune as a result. Toshiyuki Nishida
is a Japanese actor. He has won two Japanese Academy Awards for best actor, for ''The Silk Road'' (1988) and ''Tsuribaka Nisshi 6'' (1993). He has also won the Blue Ribbon Award for Best Actor for '' Get Up!'' and '' Tsuribaka Nisshi 14'' (2003). Outside Japan he is best known for his role as Pigsy (Cho Hakkai) in ''Monkey''. Ōishi Yoshio
was the chamberlain (karō) of the Akō Domain in Harima Province (now Hyōgo Prefecture), Japan (1679 - 1701). He is known as the leader of the Forty-seven Rōnin in their 1702 revenge vendetta and thus the hero of the ''Chūshingura''. He is often referred to by his title, . Biography He served Asano Naganori as the head chamberlain () for the Akō estate, supervising the daily running of the castle and the samurai. Due to the Tokugawa rules which required all the daimyō to spend every other year in Edo (now called Tokyo) the chamberlain was a very important man and the de facto ruler of the estate when the daimyō was away. Teruhiko Saigō
was a Japanese singer and actor. As a singer, he was known as one of the three "''Gosanke''" (referring to ''gosanke'', the three great Tokugawa houses), along with Yukio Hashi and Kazuo Funaki. The stage name was based on the Meiji Restoration one of three heroes, but also the Kagoshima Local hero Takamori Saigo. Tokugawa Mitsukuni
, also known as , was a Japanese daimyo who was known for his influence in the politics of the early Edo period. He was the third son of Tokugawa Yorifusa (who in turn was the eleventh son of Tokugawa Ieyasu) and succeeded him, becoming the second daimyo of the Mito Domain. Biography Tokugawa Mitsukuni was born on July 11, 1628, in Mito Domain, Hitachi Province as the third son of Tokugawa Yorifusa, the first daimyo of Mito Domain. His father was the eleventh son of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder and first shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate. Tokugawa Mitsusada
was a ''daimyō'' in Japan during the Edo period (1603–1868). Mitsusada born as son and heir of Tokugawa Yorinobu and a grandson of Tokugawa Ieyasu with childhood name Nagatomimaru (長福丸). Among his sons was the eighth Tokugawa shōgun Yoshimune. Norihime, daughter of his married Ichijō Kaneteru. He married daughter of Prince Fushimi-no-Miya Sadakiyo, Yaso-no-Miya Teruko (who also sister of Asa no Miya Akiko who was 4th shōgun, Tokugawa Ietsuna's wife). One of the gosanke, Mitsusada ruled the Wakayama Domain from its castle, his birthplace, in Wakayama. , better known by his stage name , was a Japanese actor. He was the son of ''jidaigeki'' actor Jūshirō Konoe and actress Yaeko Mizukawa and has a younger brother, Yūki Meguro, who is also an actor. With ex-wife actress Akiko Nishina he had two children; son Masaki Nishina and daughter Hitomi Nishina are both in the entertainment industry.
