Tokai Stakes
The Tokai Stakes ( Japanese 東海ステークス) is a Grade 2 horse race for Thoroughbreds aged four and over run in January over a distance of 1800 metres at Chukyo Racecourse. It was first run in 1984 as the Grade 3 Winter Stakes and was promoted to Grade 2 in 1999. It was renamed the Tokai Stakes in 2000. The race was initially run over 2200 metres but switched to 2300 metres in 1986. The distance was reduced to 1900 metres in 2010 and 1800 metres in 2013. The race often serves as a trial for the February Stakes. Winners since 2000 The 2010, 2011 and 2012 races took place at Kyoto Racecourse. Vanyar crossed the finish line first but was disqualified because the jockey fell off. Thoroughbred
The Thoroughbred is a horse breed best known for its use in horse racing. Although the word ''thoroughbred'' is sometimes used to refer to any breed of purebred horse, it technically refers only to the Thoroughbred breed. Conditions Races
Conditions races are horse races in which the weights carried by the runners are laid down by the conditions attached to the race. Weights are allocated according to the sex of the runners, with female runners carrying less weight than males; the age of the runners, with younger horses receiving weight from older runners to allow for relative maturity, referred to as weight for age; and the quality of the runners, with horses that have won certain values of races giving weight to less successful entrants. February Stakes
The is a Grade 1 flat horse race in Japan for four-year-old and above thoroughbreds. It is run over a distance of 1,600 metres (approximately 8 furlongs) at Tokyo Racecourse in late February. It was first run in 1984 as February Handicap, and was given Domestic Grade 3 status. This was elevated to Domestic Grade 2 in 1994, Domestic Grade 1 in 1997, and to its present level in 2007. It was renamed February Stakes in 1994. Horses from National Association of Racing(NAR) have been eligible to run in the race since 1995, and 2007 for horses not trained in Japan. This race and Champions Cup are the only Grade 1 dirt race organized by the JRA (the other international Grade 1 dirt race (Tokyo Daishōten) and domestic Grade1 races are all organized by NAR). Yuichi Fukunaga
is a Japanese jockey who has won 29 Grade 1 races in Japan and abroad. He is affiliated with the Japan Racing Association (JRA) in Rittō. His father is former jockey Yoichi Fukunaga who was said to be a "genius" during his active career, and his uncle is Takashi Kitamura, also a former jockey. His wife is former Fuji TV announcer Midori Matsuo. Since July 2016, he has a management contract with Horipro, the entertainment production in which his wife is also affiliated. On December 8, 2022, following his trainer license issue being issued by the JRA, Fukunaga announced that he would retire as a jockey at the end of February next year and make a transition in to becoming a horse trainer. Christophe Lemaire
Christophe Patrice Lemaire (Japanese:, born 20 May 1979) is a French-born jockey. He has enjoyed much of his success on the Japanese flat racing circuit, with the most wins at Japan Racing Association racetracks for five consecutive years since 2017. Career Lemaire began racing in 1999, after he obtained the license required for a French jockey. From there, he has steadily built up a good track record, becoming the seventh leading jockey in 2003, and winning the French Group 1 Grand Prix de Paris in the same year. (born March 15, 1969 in Kyoto, Kyoto) is a Japanese jockey. A legend in Japan, Yutaka Take made his riding debut in 1987 and currently holds seven all-time records in his native country. Take has won at least one Grade 1 races for 23 straight years until 2010 and a graded stakes race for 36 consecutive years. Take has also shown his abilities abroad. Bauyrzhan Murzabayev (Бауыржан Мұрзабаев; born September 17, 1992) is a Kazakhstani jockey currently active in Germany. He is the 3 time German flat racing Champion Jockey from 2019 to 2021. Overview Murzabayev was born on September 17, 1992 in Almaty to a family that owned racehorses, which led him to grow an interest in horse racing. He first earned his jockey license in his native country in 2007 before moving to the Czech Republic, where he won the European Jockeys Cup in 2016 and 2018. He started racing in Germany also, and is currently running for Peter Schiergen. Under Schiergen, Murzabayev won the Deutsches Derby in 2022 as Sammarco's jockey.
