Toftøyna
Toftøyna or Toftøy is an island in Øygarden municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The island is the southernmost of the main islands of Øygarden. It is connected by bridge to the island of Rongøy (to the north), to the small island of Turøy (to the southwest), and to the island of Misje in Fjell municipality (to the south). Toftøyna is connected to the mainland by a series of bridges by heading south via Misje island. There are 2 main settlements on the rocky island: Vikavågen on the southeastern shore and Torsteinsvik on the northwestern shore. The main road on the island is Norwegian County Road 561 which runs between the two villages, connecting it to the surrounding islands. The Hjeltefjorden flows along the eastern shore of the island and the North Sea lies to the west. Rongøy
Rongøyna or Rongøy is an island in Øygarden municipality in northwestern Vestland county, Norway. The island is located in the Øygarden archipelago, north of the island of Toftøyna, east of Ono, and south of Blomøyna. The village of Rong covers the majority of the island. The island is connected to the island of Toftøyna via the Rongesundet Bridge, which crosses the Rongesundet strait and there is a short bridge over the Ulvsundet strait on the north side of the island. The island has about 1000 residents (est. 2008) and it is notable for its aquaculture industry. There is a scallops hatchery located at Rong. The island is the site of two municipal schools: Rong School (grades 1-7), serving southern Øygarden, and Øygarden School (grades 8-10), serving the whole municipality. Turøy
Turøyna or Turøy is an island in Øygarden Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The island lies just west of the islands of Toftøyna and Misje. Prior to 1964, the island was part of the old municipality of Herdla. Then from 1964 until 2020 it was part of Fjell municipality. About one hundred people live on the island. The island has a road connection to the mainland via the Turøy Bridge which connects to Toftøyna. The road then continues over a series of bridges connecting a string of islands to each other and to the city of Bergen. The postcode is 5365 Turøy. The island is a good spot for birdwatching and there is an ornithological station on the island. The island received some notoriety because of a 2016 helicopter crash. Misje
Misje is an island (and village) in Øygarden Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The island lies just south of the island of Toftøyna and north of the large island of Sotra. Almost all of the 257 inhabitants (as of 2009) live on the eastern part of the island, which is referred to as the village of Misje. Historically, the island was part of the old municipality of Herdla. In 1964, it was transferred to the newly established municipality of Fjell (and then part of Øygarden since 2020). The island has been connected to the neighboring island of Sotra by the Solviksundet Bridge since 1982. Sotra, in turn, is connected to the mainland by a series of bridges. Vestland is a county in Norway established on 1 January 2020. The county is located in Western Norway and it is centred around the city of Bergen, Norway's second largest city. Hjeltefjorden is a fjord in Vestland county, Norway. The long fjord runs north–south between many islands leading from the open ocean to the city of Bergen. It passes through the municipalities of Fedje, Øygarden, Alver, and Askøy. Its name is derived from ''Hjaltland'', the Old Norse name for Shetland. The main shipping routes from Bergen to Shetland ran through Hjeltefjorden. Strait
A strait is an oceanic landform connecting two seas or two other large areas of water. The surface water generally flows at the same elevation on both sides and through the strait in either direction. Most commonly, it is a narrow ocean channel that lies between two land masses. Some straits are not navigable, for example because they are either too narrow or too shallow, or because of an unnavigable reef or archipelago. Fjell
Fjell is a former municipality in the old Hordaland county, Norway. It is part of the traditional district of Midhordland. The municipality consisted of several islands west of the city of Bergen, the major ones being Litlesotra, the northern part of Store Sotra, Bildøy, Bjorøy, Misje, and Turøy. The administrative centre of Fjell is the village of Straume. Some of the villages in Fjell included Ågotnes, Fjell, Foldnes, Knappskog, Knarrevik, Kolltveit, Landro, and Sekkingstad. On 1 January 2020, the municipality became part of Øygarden Municipality in Vestland county. Due to the opening of the Sotra Bridge to the mainland in 1971 and its proximity to the city of Bergen, the population has grown from less than 7,000 to over 25,000 as of 2017.
