Tawfik
Tawfik ( ar, توفيق), or Tewfik, is an Arabic masculine given name. The name is derived from the Arabic root: waaw-faa-qaaf (), which means to agree or to reconcile. Tawfik translates to, "the ability or opportunity to achieve success". A spelling of ''Tewfik'' or ''Toufic'' is used more among French speakers. Tawfik can be used as a given name or surname. Since it is considered a "neutral" name in the Arabic language, many Arabic-speaking Christians as well as Muslims are named Tawfik. Colonel General Tofig Aghahuseynov ( az, Tofiq Yaqub oğlu Ağahüseynov; 1 February 1923 – 12 May 2021) was a Soviet-Azerbaijani military leader. Early life He was born on February 1, 1923, in the city of Nukha of the Azerbaijan SSR in a family of a doctors. In 1930, the family moved to Baku and in the same year he went to school No. 1. In 1940, after graduating from school, he entered the energy faculty of the Azerbaijan Industrial Institute. Tofiq Bahramov
Tofiq Bahramov ( az, Tofiq Bəhramov; ; russian: Тофик Бахрамов; 29 January 1925 – 26 March 1993) was a Soviet footballer and football referee from Azerbaijan. He was notable for being the linesman who helped to award a contentious goal for England in the 1966 FIFA World Cup Final against West Germany. He came to be wrongly referred to as "the Russian linesman" in England as a result of his decision and his Soviet citizenship, although he was not Russian but Azerbaijani. As a referee earlier in the tournament, he drew attention for denying a Swiss goal in a first-round game between Switzerland and Spain. After his death in 1993, Azerbaijan's then national stadium was renamed the Tofiq Bahramov Republican Stadium in his honor. Tofig Ahmed-agha oglu Bakikhanov ( az, Tofiq Əhmədağa oğlu Bakıxanov) is a composer. He was awarded the title People's Artists of the Azerbaijan SSR (1990). Biography Tofig Bakikhanov, a descendant of Baku khans, was born on 8 December 1930 in Baku, in the family of Ahmed–agha Bakikhanov, People's Artist of Azerbaijan. He began his musical activity as a violinist. In 1953, Tofig Bakikhanov graduated from the Azerbaijan State Conservatory specializing in violin, where Fikret Amirov was his teacher. In 1957, he majored in music composing, where his teacher was another prominent Azerbaijani composer Gara Garayev. Tofig Gasimov Masim oglu ( az, Tofiq Qasımov Məsim oğlu;10 April 1938 – 29 January 2020) was an Azerbaijani politician and diplomat. Early life Gasimov was born in Leki village of Agdash Rayon, Azerbaijan. In 1945–1955, he studied in Agstafa city school. In 1955–1960, he was enrolled at Azerbaijan State University and graduated with a degree in Physics and Mathematics using ''Stalin scholarship''. After graduation, he worked at the Physics Institute of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. Gasimov continued with his post graduate studies at Physics Institute of USSR Academy of Sciences and in 1969, he obtained his PhD degree. Tofig Alakbar oglu Guliyev ( az, Tofiq Ələkbər oğlu Quliyev, tr, Tevfik Elekber oğlu Guliyev; 7 November 1917, Baku – 4 October 2000, Baku) was a Soviet and Azerbaijani composer, pianist, and conductor. Tofig Huseynov
Major Tofig Huseynov (; 19 April 1954 – 26 February 1992) was an Azerbaijani soldier and National Hero of Azerbaijan, He commanded the Khojaly Self-Defence Battalion. Biography Huseynov was born on April 19, 1954 in Khojaly, in what was then the Azerbaijan SSR. From 1961 to 1971, he studied at secondary school. Then, he graduated from the local agricultural technical school in the city of Aghdam. From 1974 to 1976 he served in the ranks of the Soviet army in the city of Alma-Ata, the capital of the Kazakh SSR (now Kazakhstan). Returning to his homeland, he taught basic military training at a secondary school in Khojaly. With the beginning of the First Nagorno-Karabakh War, he took part in the defense of Khojaly. Tofig Muhammad oglu Huseynzade ( az, Tofiq Məhəmməd oğlu Hüseynzadə; 20 September 1946 – 13 November 2006) also spelled as Tofiq Huseynzade was a philologist, folklorist, journalist and poet of Azerbaijan. He was a member of the Union of Journalists of the USSR (1987). Tofik Ismailov ( az, Tofiq İsmayılov Kazım oğlu; June 21, 1933 – November 20, 1991) was born in Baku, Azerbaijan and served as the first Secretary of State of Azerbaijan. He was killed in a helicopter which was shot down by Armenian forces near the Karakend village of Khojavend district in Nagorno-Karabakh, Azerbaijan. There were no survivors of the crash.
