To The One
''To the One'' is an album released by British jazz guitarist John McLaughlin. It is his first album with his band, the 4th Dimension. The album was released in 2010 on Abstract Logix Records and was produced by McLaughlin. It reached number 27 on the ''Billboard'' Jazz Albums Chart and was nominated for the 2011 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Album. Overview ''To the One'' was inspired by the 1965 John Coltrane album ''A Love Supreme''. The liner notes were written by McLaughlin and detail how he was influenced by ''A Love Supreme'' both musically and spiritually. The music came to McLaughlin over a five-week period in the summer of 2009. McLaughlin previously honoured the memory of Coltrane on his 1973 collaboration with Carlos Santana, '' Love Devotion Surrender''. John McLaughlin (musician)
John McLaughlin (born 4 January 1942), frequently known as Mahavishnu John, is an English guitarist, bandleader, and composer. A pioneer of jazz fusion, his music combines elements of jazz with rock, world music, Indian classical music, Western classical music, flamenco, and blues. After contributing to several key British groups of the early 1960s, McLaughlin made ''Extrapolation'', his first album as a bandleader, in 1969. He then moved to the U.S., where he played with drummer Tony Williams's group Lifetime and then with Miles Davis on his electric jazz fusion albums ''In a Silent Way'', '' Bitches Brew'', '' Jack Johnson'', and ''On the Corner''. His 1970s electric band, the Mahavishnu Orchestra, performed a technically virtuosic and complex style of music that fused electric jazz and rock with Indian influences. ''All About Jazz'' is a website established by Michael Ricci in 1995. A volunteer staff publishes news, album reviews, articles, videos, and listings of concerts and other events having to do with jazz. Ricci maintains a related site, ''Jazz Near You'', about local concerts and events. The Jazz Journalists Association voted ''All About Jazz'' Best Website Covering Jazz for thirteen consecutive years between 2003 and 2015, when the category was retired. Mark Mondesir
Mark Mondesir (born 12 December 1964) is an English jazz drummer. His brother, Michael Mondesir, is a bass guitarist. Career Mondesir was born in Stepney, London, on 12 December 1964. Mondesir began his career in 1984 as part of Ian Carr's workshops at the Weekend Arts Center. Mondesir worked with Courtney Pine between 1985 and 1989 and recorded with Kevin Eubanks in 1991. In the 1990s, Mondesir accompanied musicians who were visiting the UK; these included Art Farmer, Hermeto Pascoal and John Scofield. Mondesir played with Pee Wee Ellis's Assembly in 1996. In the 1990s and early 2000s, he was part of bands led by pianist Julian Joseph. Hadrien Feraud (born August 16, 1984 in Paris) is a French jazz bassist. Biography Hadrien Feraud was born into a very musical family. His parents -- who are also musicians -- immersed him at a very young age in various musical environments: rock 'n roll, blues, funk, R&B, new wave, and, of course, jazz. Hadrien began studying guitar at age 8, taking lessons from his father. He also had a deep interest in film scores.
