To Separate the Flesh from the Bones were a Finnish deathgrind band. The band can be considered a side project of three members of Finland's metal and rock scenes: Pasi Koskinen (ex- Amorphis, ex-Shape of Despair, Ajattara), Mika Karppinen (ex- HIM) and Niclas Etelävuori (ex-Amorphis, ex- Moonspell). Biography The project began circa 2004 when three active members of Finland's metal scene decided to create a grindcore and brutal death side project. Pasi Koskinen and Niclas Etelävuori, ex-bandmates from Amorphis, joined Mika Karppinen (aka Gas) who is in the gothic rock band HIM. Moonspell
Moonspell is a Portuguese gothic metal band formed in 1992. The group released their first EP, ''Under the Moonspell'', in 1994 and followed up with their debut album, '' Wolfheart'', a year later. They quickly became the most recognizable metal band from Portugal and a key figure in gothic metal. Moonspell achieved success in Portugal with their 1998 album '' Sin/Pecado''. Gothic Rock
Gothic rock (also called goth rock or simply goth) is a style of rock music that emerged from post-punk in the United Kingdom in the late 1970s. The first post-punk bands which shifted toward dark music with gothic overtones include Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division, Bauhaus, and the Cure. The genre itself was defined as a separate movement from post-punk. Gothic rock stood out due to its darker sound, with the use of primarily minor or bass chords, reverb, dark arrangements, or dramatic and melancholic melodies, having inspirations in gothic literature allied with themes such as sadness, nihilism, dark romanticism, tragedy, melancholy and morbidity. Mika Karppinen
Mika Kristian Karppinen (born 8 February 1971), better known as Gas Lipstick, is a Swedish-Finnish musician, best known as the previous drummer of the Finnish gothic rock band HIM. He is also a drummer for other bands currently on hiatus, such as deathgrind group To Separate the Flesh from the Bones, heavy metal group Bendover, punk group Valvontakomissio, and punk group Ääritila. Biography Born in Eskilstuna, Sweden to Finnish parents, Karppinen moved to Finland with his family at age 13. He was a session drummer for one tour with the Finnish band Tarot (known as a project band of Nightwish's Marko Hietala). Before joining HIM, he was also a member of Kyyria, which included Santeri Kallio and Niclas Etelävuori from the Finnish band Amorphis and singer Ville Tuomi of Suburban Tribe.
