Tjerk Smeets
Tjerk Smeets (born 3 June 1980) is a Dutch baseball player who currently plays for Kinheim and the Dutch national team. He is the son of Dutch radio and television personality, writer, and columnist Mart Smeets. Smeets played his college baseball in the United States. In 1999, he homered in his only at-bat and drew two walks. In 2000, he was one for two with a RBI. In 2001, he hit .159/.256/.304 in 30 games. He did homer in a game in which Middle Tennessee State set a school record with 8 circuit clouts. Smeets played for the Dutch team in the 2003 World Port Tournament, going 1 for 2 with a 2-run homer. As it was one of just two home runs in the event, Smeets won the World Port Tournament Home Run King award. In 2005, he hit .326/.433/.439 for the Amsterdam Pirates to finish 6th in the Hoofdklasse in average, 7th in OBP and 8th in slugging. Catcher is a Baseball positions, position in baseball and softball. The Vierde Divisie, formerly known as Hoofdklasse () is the second-highest league of amateur football in the Netherlands, and the fifth tier in general. Background The league is divided into two sections: Saturday and Sunday. This is a result of the traditional pillarisation ( nl, verzuiling), the segregation of Dutch society. The ''Saturday'' clubs are mainly Protestant Christian clubs, who were not allowed to play on Sunday. 2006 Intercontinental Cup
The 2006 IBAF Intercontinental Cup was held in Taichung, Taiwan from November 9 through the 19th. Eight countries contested the tournament, which was played at Taichung Baseball Field and the newly built Taichung Intercontinental Baseball Stadium. The participating countries were Cuba, Australia, Italy, the Netherlands, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines in addition to the hosts from Chinese Taipei (Taiwan). Haarlem Baseball Week
The Haarlem Baseball Week ( nl, Honkbalweek Haarlem, before 2016 known as ) is an international invitation baseball tournament at the in Haarlem, Netherlands. It was first held in and has been held every other year in even-numbered years since . In December 2016, a few months after the 28th edition of the event, the organisation of the tournament announced that this had been the last edition and that there would be no new editions due to financial problems. A workgroup was formed to find sponsors in order to realise a relaunch, which succeeded after several companies and the municipality of Haarlem guaranteed an amount that would cover the costs of at least three new editions. The 2018 Haarlem Baseball Week, the 29th edition of the event, was won by Japan, their fourth title. The 2020 edition of the tournament was cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Holland Series
The Holland Series has been the annual championship series of the highest level of professional baseball in the Netherlands since 1987, concluding the postseason of Honkbal Hoofdklasse. Roel Koolen
Roel Koolen (born April 20, 1982 in Mierlo) was a Dutch baseball player who used to play for Kinheim and the Dutch national team. Koolen made his Hoofdklasse debut at the Twins Sporting Club in 1998. He played for the Dutch junior team in the 1999 World Junior Championship and 2000 World Junior Championship. In 2000, Koolen moved to DOOR Neptunus and helped the team win the Holland Series in 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2005 (he was not on the team in 2003). In the 2004 playoffs, he was named MVP.
