Tizoc (film)
''Tizoc'' is a 1957 Mexican drama film directed by Ismael Rodríguez. It was entered into the 7th Berlin International Film Festival, where Pedro Infante won the Silver Bear for Best Actor. The film also won the Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 15th Golden Globe Awards. It was to be Infante's last film before his death in a plane crash in 1957. Plot In a small village near the Oaxacan sierra in the 19th century, a humble and brave Native trapper named Tizoc prepares himself for his wedding to a fellow Native girl named Machinza. He has an unresolved quarrel with her family (which dates before their births and is due to the enmity of their respective tribes), and also because he is better skilled and can hunt more animals without the need for firearms which ruins their hide. Ismael Rodríguez
Ismael Rodríguez (October 19, 1917 – August 7, 2004) was a Mexican film director. Rodríguez rose to fame due to the movies he directed starring Pedro Infante, and directed many major stars, including Dolores del Río, María Félix, Toshiro Mifune, Jorge Negrete, Sara García, Luis Aguilar, Tito Guízar, Gloria Marín, Carmelita González, Antonio Aguilar, Columba Domínguez or Flor Silvestre. He directed the film '' Ánimas Trujano'' (1961) for which he was nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. Rodríguez's most renowned international film is ''Tizoc'', in which Pedro Infante starred alongside María Félix. Eduardo Martínez Fajardo (14 August 1924 – 4 July 2019) was a Spanish film actor born in Meis (Pontevedra), Spain. He appeared in 183 films, 75 plays and made 2,000 television appearances between 1947 and 2002. Biography He was born in Meis, Pontevedra on 14 August 1924, and he raised in Haro and Santander, where he studied Bachillerato. He began his career as a voice actor from 1942 to 1946, and in 1947 he made his film debut in ''Héroes del 95'', directed by Raúl Alfonso. In the 1950s he moved to Mexico, and when he came back to Spain he appeared in spaghetti westerns such as ''Gli eroi di Fort Worth'' (1965) by Martin Herbert, and '' Django'' (1966) by Sergio Corbucci. Tizocic or Tizocicatzin usually known in English as Tizoc, was the seventh ''tlatoani'' of Tenochtitlan. His name means, "He who makes sacrifices" or "He who does penance." Either Tizoc or his successor Ahuitzotl was the first ''tlatoani'' of Tenochtitlan to assume the title ''Huey Tlatoani'' ("supreme ''tlatoani''") to make their superiority over the other cities in the Triple Alliance (Aztec Empire) clear.
