Titas Upazila
Titas ( bn, তিতাস) is an upazila of Comilla District in the Division of Chittagong, Bangladesh. It has a rich heritage of culture and tradition. This upazilla was formerly under Daudkandi upazilla. In 2005, it has been made a entirely new upazilla. History Titas was created in 2004. It split with nine Unions from Daudkandi Upazila. The name Titas named after the river Titas. Then minister and local MP Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain proposed the name. Location It has Homna Upazila of Comilla District on the north, Daudkandi Upazila on the south, Muradnagar Upazila on the east and Meghna Upazila on the west. Administration Titas Upazila is divided into nine union parishads: Balorampur, Jagatpur, Kalakandi, Karikandi, Majidpur, Narayandia, Satani, Vitikandi, Zearkandi. An ''upazila'' ( bn, উপজেলা, upôzela, lit=sub-district pronounced: ), formerly called ''thana'', is an administrative region in Bangladesh, functioning as a sub-unit of a district. Union council ( bn, ইউনিয়ন পরিষদ, translit=iūniyan pariṣad, translit-std=IAST), also known as union parishad, rural council, rural union and simply union, is the smallest rural administrative and local government unit in Bangladesh. Each union council is made up of nine wards. Usually one village is designated as a ward. There are 4,562 unions in Bangladesh. A union council consists of a chairman and twelve members including three members exclusively reserved for women. Union councils are formed under the ''Local Government (Union Parishads) Act, 2009''. The boundary of each union council is demarcated by the Deputy Commissioner of the District. Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) are a paramilitary force responsible for the border security of Bangladesh. The force is known as "The Vigilant Sentinels of the National Frontier". The BGB is entrusted with the responsibility to defend the border of Bangladesh. It was formerly known as the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR). BGB boasts a military history spanning over two centuries. During peacetime this force is also responsible for anti-smuggling operations, investigating cross border crime and extending governmental authority to remote and isolated areas. Md Mainul Islam is a retired lieutenant general of Bangladesh Army. He is the former Principal Staff Officer of Armed Forces Division and Chief of General Staff (CGS) of Bangladesh Army. He also served as Director General of Border Guards Bangladesh. He is currently the president of the Bangladesh Archery Federation. Dhaka North City Corporation
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) or Dhaka Uttar City Corporation was created as an autonomous body that governs 54 northern wards of Dhaka to better manage local services, but has since added new areas. It is one of two municipal corporations in Dhaka, the other being Dhaka South City Corporation. Annisul Huq was the first mayor of the Dhaka North City Corporation, after being elected in April 2015.
