Tischbein Family
The Tischbein family was a German family of artists, originating in Hesse and spanning three generations. The family patriarch, Johann Heinrich Tischbein (1682–1764), was a master baker at the State Hospital in Haina. The Tischbeins also produced a number of master carpenters. (The name translates as "Table Leg"). Hesse
Hesse (, , ) or Hessia (, ; german: Hessen ), officially the State of Hessen (german: links=no, Land Hessen), is a States of Germany, state in Germany. Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Tischbein
Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Tischbein, known as the ''Goethe Tischbein'' (15 February 1751 in Haina – 26 February 1829 in Eutin), was a German painter from the Tischbein family of artists. Biography Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Tischbein was born on 15 February 1751 in Haina. His father was Johann Conrad, a carpenter. Tischbein began his artistic studies with his uncle, Johann Heinrich Tischbein the Elder (The "Kassel Tischbein"), in 1765, when Johann Heinrich Wilhelm was only 14 years old. Soon after, he began his travels, first working at the studio of his uncle Johann Jacob Tischbein in Hamburg before moving to Bremen in 1771, and then travelling through Holland in 1772 and 1773. Tischbein returned to Kassel in 1773. Between 1773 and 1775 he completed many portrait commissions with his brother Johann Heinrich Tischbein the Younger. An artist is a person engaged in an activity related to creating art, practicing the arts, or demonstrating an art. Michael Eissenhauer
Michael Eissenhauer (born 28 November 1956 in Stuttgart) is a German art historian and was director-general of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin. Biography After gaining his Abitur (school-leaving certificate) in 1975, Michael Eissenhauer completed two years of training as a cabinetmaker before going on to study art history, classical archaeology and German literature in Tübingen and Hamburg. He received both a master's degree (1983) and a PhD (1985) from the University of Hamburg. The Museum der bildenden Künste (German: "Museum of Fine Arts") is a museum in Leipzig, Saxony, Germany. It covers artworks from the Late Middle Ages to Modernity. History Museum Foundation and First Museum The museum dates back to the founding of the "Leipzig Art Association" by Leipzig art collectors and promoters in 1837, and had set itself the goal of creating an art museum. On 10 December 1848, the association was able to open the "Städtische Museum" in the first public school on the Moritzbastei. There were issued approximately hundred gathered and donated works of (at that time) contemporary art. Paul Tischbein
Paul Ludwig Philipp Wilhelm Tischbein (12 July 1820, Rostock - 17 May 1874, Rostock) was a German illustrator and painter; primarily of landscapes and genre scenes. He was a member of the Tischbein family of artists. Biography His father was the painter, August Albrecht Christian Tischbein. His brother, Albrecht was an engineer and shipbuilder. In 1848, he began his formal studies at the Berlin University of the Arts and continued at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts. After graduating, he became an art teacher. From 1861 to 1869, he taught at the "Große Stadtschule", a gymnasium devoted to the humanities in Rostock. In addition to his paintings, he created lithographs of people in military uniforms and traditional folk costumes. In the 1870s, he produced illustrations for several works by the Low-German comic writer, John Brinckman. Johann Valentin Tischbein
Johann Valentin Tischbein (11 December 1715, in Haina – 24 April 1768, in Hildburghausen) was a German painter from the Tischbein family of artists. Biography His father, Johann Heinrich Tischbein (1682–1764) was a baker; five of whose eight children became painters. From 1729 to 1736, he studied art; first in Darmstadt with the court painter Johann Christian Fiedler, then in Kassel with the portrait painter, Johann Georg von Freese (1701–1775). His whereabouts for the next three years is uncertain, although he appears to have spent some time in Frankfurt am Main. In 1739 he worked for the Solms-Laubach, House of Solms and was appointed court painter in 1741. From 1744 to c.1747, he served as court painter to the Hohenlohes in Kirchberg an der Jagst, where he was married. Johann Jacob Tischbein, known as the ''Lübecker Tischbein'' (21 February 1725, Haina – 22/23 August 1791, Lübeck), was a German painter from the Tischbein family of artists. Biography He was the sixth son of Johann Heinrich Tischbein (1682-1764), a baker at the local hospital. He was originally a decorative painter, but eventually began producing portraits and landscapes. His wife was a daughter of the painter, Johann Dietrich Lilly (1705-1792). After spending several years in Hamburg, he relocated to Lübeck in 1775. One of his most prominent students was his nephew, Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Tischbein, known as the "Goethe-Tischbein". Johann Heinrich Tischbein, known as The Younger (28 November 1742, Haina - 22 December 1808, Kassel) was a German painter and engraver from the Tischbein family of artists. Biography He was the son of Johann Konrad Tischbein (1712–1778), a carpenter who was the eldest son of the Tischbein family patriarch, Johann Heinrich (1682-1764). His younger brother was Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Tischbein, known as the ''Goethe Tischbein''. He received his first art lessons from his uncle Johann Heinrich Tischbein, sometimes called ''The Elder'' to distinguish them. After spending some time in the Netherlands, he settled in Kassel, where his uncle had established an art gallery for William VIII, Landgrave of Hesse-Kassel. In 1775, he was appointed "Inspector" of the gallery. Haina (Kloster) is a municipality in Waldeck-Frankenberg in northwest Hesse, Germany. Geography Location Haina lies in Waldeck-Frankenberg south of Frankenberg and east of Burgwald at the southwest slope of the Kellerwald range.
