The Tischbein family was a German family of artists, originating in Hesse and spanning three generations. The family patriarch, Johann Heinrich Tischbein (1682–1764), was a master baker at the State Hospital in Haina. The Tischbeins also produced a number of master carpenters. (The name translates as "Table Leg"). Johann Heinrich Albrecht Tischbein (15 November 1803, Sternberg - 22 March 1881, Rostock) was a German engineer and shipbuilder; one of the designers of the first German iron screw steamers. Biography His father was the painter and art teacher, August Albrecht Christian Tischbein. His youth was spent in the port of Rostock, where he developed his interest in ships. With help from his cousin, the naval officer and engineer Gerhard Moritz Roentgen, he was able to train as an engineer in Seraing with John Cockerill.Brief biography

Peter Friedrich Ludwig Tischbein (6 December 1813, Eutin – 5 October 1883, Eutin) was a German forester, paleontologist and entomologist. His father was the painter Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Tischbein. Prior to 1841, he worked as a supervisor in the Lensahn forestry district of Holstein. In 1843 he was named head of the Oberstein forestry department headquartered in Herrstein. In 1852 he attained the title of ''Oberförster'', and in 1873 became a senior official of forested areas in the Principality of Birkenfeld.
