Tirurangadi
Tirurangadi is a municipal town in Malappuram district of Kerala, India. It is a historic town famed for its active participation in the freedom struggle, especially those dating back to the 1920s. It serves as a local taluk and is located, 30 km south of Calicut and 140 km north of Ernakulam. It is located 9 km east of the coastal town of Parappanangadi, 10 km northwest of Kottakkal, 11 km northeast of Tanur town, 16 km southwest of Kondotty town, 17 km north of Tirur, and 18 km west of Malappuram. History Tirurangadi, which was then an important centre of trade, was known by the name ''Tiruwarankad'' to the Arabs, during the middle ages. The Tirurangadi Taluk Office, also known as Hajur Kacheri, is a historic building located in Tirurangadi Talk of Malappuram district, Malappuram District in the Indian state of Kerala. It houses the Tirurangadi Taluka office, Taluk Office since the post-independence Malabar District or British-era Madras Presidency. The Taluk office, which was once the Hajur Kacheri (Huzur Office) under the British, was one of the major administrative centers of the British Raj, British government in Malabar Coast, Malabar region. Tirurangadi Muslim Orphanage is an educational hub of ten educational organizations situated in and around Tirurangadi town in Malappuram district, Kerala, India. P.S.M.O.College is the biggest campus in the entire group. Location The orphanage and other educational institutions are located at Saudabad in Tirurangadi, Malappuram District. History The Noorul Islamic Madrasa was established in 1939 followed by the Oriental Higher Secondary School in 1955. The famous philanthropist M.K.Haji Sahib donated land for the orphanage and the Orphanage L.P.School was established in 1960. P.S.M.O. College was established in 1968. Battle Of Tirurangadi
The Battle of Tirurangadi (also called the Battle of Calicut) was a series of engagements that took place between 7 and 12 December 1790 at Tirurangadi near the port of Calicut on the Malabar Coast of India, during the Third Anglo-Mysore War. A British Bombay Army force landed at Tellicherry and with the aid of sepoys and horses provided by Travancore, defeated Tipu's commander, Hussain Ali Khan, at Calicut. Parappanangadi, , is a major town and a municipality in Tirurangadi taluk of Malappuram district, Kerala, India. It is a coastal town located close to the Arabian sea. Parappanangadi railway station is one of the oldest railway stations in Kerala. It was a part of the first rail route (Tirur–Chaliyam) in Kerala. Tirur Taluk comes under Tirur revenue division in Malappuram district of Kerala, India. Its headquarters is the town of Tirur. Tirur Taluk contains four municipalities - Tanur, Tirur, Kottakkal, and Valanchery. Most of the administrative offices are located in the Mini-Civil Stations at Tirur, Kuttippuram, and Tanur. Most of the villages in present-day Tirur Taluk were parts of the medieval Kingdom of Tanur (''Vettathunadu''). The Third Anglo-Mysore War (1790–1792) was a conflict in South India between the Kingdom of Mysore and the British East India Company, the Kingdom of Travancore, the Maratha Empire, and the Nizam of Hyderabad.
