Tintinara is a town located in the Murray and Mallee region of the South East of South Australia. The town is situated on the Dukes Highway and the Adelaide-Melbourne railway line. It is in The Coorong District Council local government area, the South Australian House of Assembly Electoral district of MacKillop and the Australian House of Representatives Division of Barker. At the 2016 Australian census, the town and district had a population of 527. The origin of the name has been debated. One possibility is that a local Aboriginal man was named ''Tin-Tin'', and the 'ara' was appended to form the place name, or that one of the Boothbys' Aboriginal employees was named Tintinara. The Coorong District Council
Coorong District Council is a local government area in South Australia located between the River Murray and the Limestone Coast region. The district cover mostly rural areas with small townships, as well as part of the Coorong National Park. The council was formed in May 1997 with the amalgamation of the District Council of Coonalpyn Downs, the District Council of Meningie and the District Council of Peake. It is geographically the largest council area in South Australia. The economy of the district is based mostly around agriculture. The council seat is at Tailem Bend; the council also operates service centres in Meningie and Tintinara. The council opened a new civic centre at Tailem Bend on 27 October 2014. Dukes Highway is a 190 kilometre highway corridor in South Australia which is part of the link between the Australian cities of Adelaide and Melbourne. It is part of the National Highway (Australia), National Highway system spanning Australia, and is signed as route A8. Mallee Football League (South Australia)
The Mallee Football League (MFL) was an Australian rules football competition in South Australia. The league comprised teams located in south eastern South Australia and one team (Murrayville) located in western Victoria. The football season started after Easter and ended in early September. The local newspaper ''The Border Times'' had extensive coverage of each week's results of the MFL. Coverage was also provided on WIN SA and Flow FM during the season. During the Queens Holiday Weekend, the MFL selected a team to represent the Mallee against the Riverland. The league's Best & Fairest award was called the ''Mail Medal''. Lake Indawarra
Lake Indawarra is an artificial lake, created as a rubble pit for railway construction, located in the town of in the Murray Mallee region of South Australia. The lake was created by railroad workers in 1905 as a railway reservoir and was given its name in the 1980s. Alexander Tolmer
Alexander Tolmer (1815 – 7 March 1890) was a South Australian police officer and Police Commissioner. He was educated at Plymouth, Rouen, Maidstone and Hawkhurst. He migrated to South Australia in 1840 where he was made sub-inspector by Governor George Gawler. In August 1840, Tolmer was part of the punitive expedition to the Coorong after Aborigines massacred 25 shipwreck survivors from the ship ''Maria'', which had been travelling from Port Adelaide to Hobart. He was involved in the 1842 search for Charles Christian Dutton and droving party, believed to have been similarly attacked on their way from Port Lincoln to Adelaide, but no trace of the party was ever found. Geoffrey Haydon Manning (1926–2018) was an Australian author and historian, commonly known as Geoff Manning and cited as an author as Geoffrey H. Manning. 2016 Australian Census
The 2016 Australian census was the 17th national population census held in Australia. The census was officially conducted with effect on Tuesday, 9 August 2016. The total population of the Commonwealth of Australia was counted as – an increase of 8.8 per cent or people over the . Norfolk Island joined the census for the first time in 2016, adding 1,748 to the population.
