Tingelstad
Tingelstad is a village in Gran Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. The village is located about to the southwest of the village of Brandbu and about east of the large lake Randsfjorden. Tingelstad is the location of the Hadeland Folkemuseum which is the regional museum for the traditional district of Hadeland. Tingelstad is also the site of two churches: Old Tingelstad Church, a medieval stone church dating from the 1200s and the new parish church, Tingelstad Church which was built in 1866. Old Tingelstad Church
Old Tingelstad Church ( no, Tingelstad gamle kirke) is a former parish church of the Church of Norway in Gran Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. It is located in the village of Tingelstad. It is part of the Gran/Tingelstad parish which is part of the Hadeland og Land prosti ( deanery) in the Diocese of Hamar. The gray, stone church was built in a long church design around the year 1220 using plans drawn up by an unknown architect. The church seats about 110 people. History The stone church at Tingelstad was built around the year 1220 (modern dendrochronological dating have dated the wood parts of the roof to the years 1219–1220). It was likely first built as a private chapel for a local manor farm. The design of the church is typical of many Romanesque medieval stone churches, with a rectangular nave and a smaller choir. Tingelstad Church
Tingelstad Church ( no, Tingelstad kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Gran Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. It is located in the village of Tingelstad. History The new church law of 1851 mandated that churches must be large enough to hold at least one-fifth of the population of the parish. The Old Tingelstad Church and the Grinaker Stave Church were both too small, so they planned to close both of them and to build a new church at Tingelstad. Hadeland Folkemuseum
Hadeland Folkemuseum is a regional museum for Hadeland ( Gran, Lunner and Jevnaker). It was founded in 1913, and is located in Tingelstad in Gran. The museum is situated along ''Kongevegen'' (The King's Road), the road from Oslo to Bergen which passes through Hadeland. Hadeland Folkemuseum is a subsidiary of ''Randsfjordmuseene'', a regional institution which also manages Lands Museum and the Kittilbu Open-Air Museum in Vestre Gausdal. Overview Hadeland Folkemuseum is an open-air museum containing more than 30 buildings from the 17th to the 20th centuries. All the items in the museum are original and have been collected from various farms and other locations in the area. Hadeland
Hadeland () is a traditional district in the southeastern part of Norway. It is centered on the southern part of the large lake Randsfjorden in Innlandet and Viken counties. The district consists of the municipalities Gran in Innlandet county and Jevnaker and Lunner in Viken county. Hadeland occupies the area north of the hills of Nordmarka close to the Norwegian capital Oslo. The soil around the Randsfjorden is amongst the most fertile in Norway. Hadeland accounts for just 5% of the country's area, but it represents 13% of its agricultural land. Farmers harvest grains and potatoes. Pigs, dairy cattle, and horses are also bred at farms there. Jevnaker is located to the southern and western side of the Randsfjorden. Gran's rolling countryside is home to about two-thirds of the nearly 30,000 people living in Hadeland. Randsfjorden
Randsfjorden is Norway's fourth-largest lake with an area of . Its volume is estimated at just over , and its greatest depth is . The lake is located at an elevation of above sea level. It is located in Innlandet and Viken counties in the municipalities of Gran, Jevnaker, Nordre Land, and Søndre Land in the districts of Land and Hadeland. It is drained by the Randselva river. In ''Heimskringla'', Snorri Sturluson recorded that Halfdan the Black (''Halvdan Svarte''), father of Harald Hårfagre, the first King of Norway, journeyed over the lake while returning home from a visit to Hadeland. Traveling with a horse and sleigh while the lake was supposedly frozen, he fell through the ice and drowned. In modern times, many golf courses have been set up on the edge of the lake. Wilhelm Von Hanno
Andreas Friedrich Wilhelm von Hanno (15 December 1826 – 12 December 1882) was a German-born Norwegian architect, sculptor and painter. He was among the leading architects in Norway during the middle of the 1800s. Biography Wilhelm von Hanno was born in Hamburg, Germany. Wilhelm's father, music teacher and librarian Johann Carl Hübner (born 1790), was a native of Königsberg and later took the additional name von Hanno. Von Hanno was educated at Die Hamburgische Gesellschaft zur Beförderung der Künste und Nützlichen Gewerben in Hamburg between the years 1840–43. German-born architect, Heinrich Ernst Schirmer was appointed the construction manager for the restoration of Oslo Cathedral but when he became ill, in 1850, von Hanno came to Oslo and was retained complete the project. Heinrich Ernst Schirmer
Heinrich Ernst Schirmer (27 August 1814 – 6 December 1887) was a German-born architect most noted for his work in Norway. Schirmer worked in Norway from 1838 to 1883 and left his mark on a number of public buildings. He contributed significantly to the introduction of the so-called Swiss architectural style in Norway, based partly on Italian villa style, Gothic Revival, and neoclassicism. Biography Schirmer was born in Leipzig, Germany. He was the son of Johan Gottlieb Schirmer and Johanne Sophie Kühne. He was the father of architect Adolf Schirmer. He received his architectural education at art academies in Dresden from 1831 to 1834, and in Munich from 1834 to 1837. In Munich he was influenced by German neoclassicist architect Leo von Klenze and his nation-building and urban design ideas.
