Timothy Whidborne
Timothy Charles Plunket Whidborne (1927-2021) was a British artist notable for his 1969 portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on horseback as Colonel-in-Chief of the Irish Guards, a regiment in which Whidborne had once been a member. Born in High Wycombe, Whidborne was educated at Stowe School, where he was a contemporary of George Melly. He served as a lieutenant in the Irish Guards and saw action in Mandatory Palestine. ''The Connoisseur'' (later simply ''Connoisseur'') was originally a British magazine taken to the United States by William Hearst and published from 1901 to 1992 in the US, covering luxury topics such as fine art, collectibles and antique furniture. Irish Guards
The Irish Guards (IG), is one of the Foot Guards regiments of the British Army and is part of the Guards Division. Together with the Royal Irish Regiment, it is one of the two Irish infantry regiments in the British Army. The regiment has participated in campaigns in the First World War, the Second World War, the Iraq War and the War in Afghanistan as well as numerous other operations throughout its history.
