Timorese Social Democratic Association
The Timorese Social Democratic Association ( pt, Associação Social-Democrata Timorense; abbreviated ASDT) was a political party in East Timor. Both the original ASDT of the 1970s (which became Fretilin) and the current party of the same name are founded by the late ex-Timorese President Francisco Xavier do Amaral. In the parliamentary election held on 30 August 2001, the party won 7.8% of the popular vote and 6 out of 88 seats. Francisco Xavier Do Amaral
Francisco Xavier do Amaral (3 December 1937 – 6 March 2012) was an East Timorese politician. A founder of the ''Frente Revolucionária de Timor Leste Independente'' (Fretilin), Amaral was sworn in as the first President of East Timor when the country, then a Portuguese colony, made a unilateral declaration of independence on 28 November 1975. He was a member of the National Parliament for the Timorese Social Democratic Association from 2001 until his death in 2012. Amaral was also known as "Abo (Grandfather) Xavier", a term of endearment, by East Timorese. This article lists the current and former political parties in East Timor. East Timor is a democratic, multi-party state. The Indonesian parties that were represented in the country during the occupation period (1975-1999) are not listed. Official registration and admission of a party takes place at the East Timor Supreme Court of Justice. Early parliamentary elections were held in East Timor on 12 May 2018 after the National Parliament (East Timor), National Parliament was dissolved by President Francisco Guterres on 26 January 2018. Dili ( Portuguese/ Tetum: ''Díli'') is the capital, largest city of East Timor and the second largest city in Timor islands after Kupang (Indonesia). It lies on the northern coast of the island of Timor, in a small area of flat land hemmed in by mountains. The climate is tropical, with distinct wet and dry seasons. 2017 East Timorese Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in East Timor on 22 July 2017. Fretilin narrowly emerged as the largest party in the National Parliament, winning 23 seats to the 22 won by the National Congress for Timorese Reconstruction, which had been the largest party in the outgoing Parliament. José Ramos-Horta
José Manuel Ramos-Horta (; born 26 December 1949) is an East Timorese politician currently serving as president of East Timor since May 2022. He previously served as president from 20 May 2007 to 20 May 2012. Previously he was Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2002 to 2006 and Prime Minister from 2006 to 2007. He is a co-recipient of the 1996 Nobel Peace Prize, along with Carlos Filipe Ximenes Belo, for working "towards a just and peaceful solution to the conflict in East Timor".
