Timiș County
Timiș () is a county ('' județ'') of western Romania on the border with Hungary and Serbia, in the historical region of Banat, with the county seat at Timișoara. It is the westernmost and the largest county in Romania in terms of land area. The county is also part of the Danube–Criș–Mureș–Tisa Euroregion. Name The name of the county comes from the Timiș River, known in Roman antiquity as ''Tibisis'' or ''Tibiscus''. According to Lajos Kiss' etymological dictionary, the name of the river probably comes from the Dacian language: ''thibh-isjo'' ("marshy"). The Timiș or Tamiš ( ro, Timiș, sr, Тамиш; german: Temesch, hu, Temes) is a long river that flows through the Banat region of Romania and Serbia and joins the Danube near Pančevo, in northern Serbia. Ținutul Timiș
Ținutul Timiș was one of the ten Romanian ''ținuturi'' ("lands"), founded in 1938 after King Carol II initiated an institutional reform by modifying the 1923 Constitution and the law of territorial administration. It comprised the Romanian Banat and parts of Transylvania, and was named after the Timiș River; its capital was the city of Timișoara. ''Ținutul Timiș'' ceased to exist following the territorial losses of Romania to the Axis powers and the king's abdication in 1940. Temes County
County of Temes ( Hungarian: ''Temes'', Romanian: ''Timiș'', Serbian: ''Тамиш'' or ''Tamiš'', German: ''Temes'' or ''Temesch'') was an administrative county (comitatus) of the Kingdom of Hungary. Its territory is now in southwestern Romania and northeastern Serbia. The capital of the county was Temesvár (Romanian: Timișoara, Serbian: Темишвар or Temišvar, German: Temeswar or Temeschwar), which also served as the kingdom's capital between 1315–1323. Timiș-Torontal County
Timiș-Torontal was a county ( ro, județ) in the Kingdom of Romania. Its capital was Timișoara. The territory of the county had been transferred to Romania in 1920 from the Kingdom of Hungary under the Treaty of Trianon. Geography Timiș-Torontal County covered 7,600 km2 and was located in western part of Greater Romania, in the Banat. Currently, the territory that comprised Timiș-Torontal County is now mostly part of Timiș County except for the eastern part, the areas around Lugoj and Făget, which are in Arad County. Timiș-Cerna Gap () is a mountain pass in South-Western Romania, mostly in Caraș-Severin County, dividing the Southern Carpathians and the Banat mountain ranges, both part of the Carpathians. The Canalul Timiș (Timiș Canal) is a canal linking the rivers Timiș and Ghimbășel in Brașov County, central Romania. It is long, and was first documented in the year 1500. The canal starts at Dâmbul Morii near Timișu de Jos, running parallel to the river Timiș until Dârste, where it turns to the northwest. It passes north of the historic centre of Brașov, and discharges into the Ghimbășel in Stupini, a northern neighbourhood of Brașov. Timiș 2 were a series of tram vehicles built in Timișoara, Romania, initially by the Timișoara Transport Company, and later by ''Electrometal Timișoara'' (also known as ''Eltim''). Trams The tramcars appeared in the late 1960s as part of the desire of the Timisoara Transport Executive (Intreprinderea de Transport Timisoara) to locally produce and buy trams. Previously the transport company acquired Electroputere Craiova's V54 type trams in 1955 and Bucharest Transport Executive (Intreprinderea de Transport Bucuresti) Main Workshops' V56 and V58. These were only imported vehicles, however, and were not great in number, as Timisoara still operated trams made from the pre-WW2 era. The first attempt at producing a tram locally was the Gb 2/2 in 1948 and 1954, but only 7 units were made.
