Arena Omsk
The Arena Omsk was a 10,318-seat multi-purpose arena in Omsk, Russia. It opened in 2007, replacing Sports-Concerts Complex Viktora Blinova as the home of Kontinental Hockey League ice hockey team, Avangard Omsk. Construction and opening After the arena was designed by Austrian company AMR the construction began on March 16, 2004. On August 31, 2007, the first ice hockey game was played as a part of the 2007 Super Series, a junior hockey challenge between Canada and Russia. The original owner of the arena was Roman Abramovich, however in 2012 he donated it to Avangard Omsk. In 2018, the arena was found to be structurally deficient, and had to be demolished. The demolition is completed in September 2019. A new arena will be built at its place and is planning to open in September 2022 for the opening of the KHL 2022–23 season. Siberian Federal District (russian: Сиби́рский федера́льный о́круг, ''Sibirsky federalny okrug'') is one of the eight federal districts of Russia. Its population was 17,178,298 according to the 2010 Census, living in an area of . Alone, it would be the 7th largest country in the world. Omsk Metro
Omsk Metro (russian: Омский метрополитен, ) is a cancelled rapid transit line that underwent various phases of construction from 1992 to 2018 in Omsk, Russia. It was to become Siberia's second metropolitan underground railway system after the Novosibirsk Metro which opened in the mid-1980s. Construction of the first line of the Metro suffered from many delays, with the planned opening date being postponed four times: from 2008 to 2010, then 2015, then again to 2016. In May 2018, the regional government of the Omsk Oblast stopped construction after 26 years, leaving behind an unfinished system with only one station that serves as a pedestrian underpass, and a double-decker metro/road bridge over the Irtysh river. Siberian International Marathon
Siberian International Marathon (SIM) (russian: Сибирский международный марафон) has been held in the city of Omsk since 1990, when the city was first opened to foreigners. The summer marathon is part of the City Days festivities. It takes place during the week of St. Ilya's Day, the patron saint of Omsk, in early August. The marathon itself takes place during the first Saturday of August. The winter half-marathon is during the January 7 Orthodox Christmas week. The race date was moved forward a week in 2012 so that the start time exactly coincided with that of the 2012 Olympic men's marathon held in London. It was delayed until September in 2013 due to the 2013 World Championships in Athletics being held in Moscow during that period.
