This is a timeline of the history of the Nagas. Before 19th century *1228: The Nagas first comes into contact with the Ahoms. 19th century *1832: The first Europeans enter the Naga Hills. *1839: Miles Bronson, the first missionary to the Naga Hills arrives in Namsang under Tirap District of present-day Arunachal Pradesh. *1851: The Battle of Kikrüma was fought on 11 and 12 February between the forces of the British East India Company and the Eastern Angamis. *1866: The British Raj establishes its first headquarters of the Naga Hills District at ''Samaguting'' (present day Chümoukedima). *1878: The headquarters was transferred to Kohima creating a city that remains an important center of administration, commerce and culture for Nagaland. *1879: 4 October, British Political Agent G. Simon Commission
The Indian Statutory Commission also known as Simon Commission, was a group of seven Members of Parliament under the chairmanship of Sir John Simon. The commission arrived in India in 1928 to study constitutional reform in Britain's largest and most important possession. One of its members was the future leader of the Labour Party Clement Attlee, who became committed to self-government for India. At the time of introducing of Montagu–Chelmsford Reforms in 1919, the British Government declared that a commission would be sent to India after ten years to examine the effects and operations of the constitutional reforms and to suggest more reforms for India. In November 1927, the British government appointed the Simon Commission two years ahead of schedule to report on India's constitutional progress for introducing constitutional reforms, as promised. Indian Police Service
The Indian Police Service ( IPS) is a civil service under the All India Services. It replaced the Indian Imperial Police in 1948, a year after India became independent from the British Raj. Along with the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and the Indian Forest Service (IFS), the IPS is one of the All India Services – its officers are employed by both the Union Government and the individual states. Naga Students' Federation
The Naga Students' Federation (NSF; ) is the largest representative body for students of the Naga people. It was established on 29 October 1947. History On 7 May 1947, student leaders from Angami Naga, Angami, Ao Naga, Ao, Lotha Naga, Lotha, Sümi Naga, Sümi gathered at Kohima and decided to have the inaugural session of the Naga Students' Federation on 17 May 1947. However, the proposed meeting could only be held from 29 to 30 October 1947 whereby NSF came into being under the Chairmanship of Z. Ahu. 1986 Killings Of Kekuojalie Sachü And Vikhozo Yhoshü
The 1986 Killings of Kekuojalie Sachü and Vikhozo Yhoshü refers to the incident of indiscriminate firing by the Nagaland State Police Forces on 20 March 1986 while they participated in a peaceful protest called by the Naga Students' Federation (NSF) to rally against the State Government's decision on the introduction of Indian Police Service (IPS) cadres and the extension of the Disturbed Area Belt from 5 to 20 km along the Indo-Myanmar (Indo- Burma) border. The event was so tumultuous that it led three Cabinet Ministers and five State Ministers of Nagaland to resign.
