Geology Of Wichita Falls, Texas
The exposed strata at the surface in and around Wichita Falls are the products of one ancient period of deposition with a modest amount of recent and modern alteration. In all cases, the strata are products of terrigenous (non-marine) environments dominated by fluvial depositional and erosional systems (rivers and streams). Brief geologic history The rocks found in and around Wichita Falls result from southwesterly-flowing Permian streams that deposited sands in channels and silts and clays on the surrounding floodplains. Calcium-carbonate rich soils concurrently developed adjacent to these streams. These were likely buried by further Permian sedimentation and then lithified. Pleistocene erosion removed the younger rocks, exposing the current strata. Exposures of sediments indicate that northeast-flowing streams locally deposited silts, clays, sands, and some gravels on the Permian rocks. Midwestern State University
Midwestern State University (MSU Texas) is a public liberal arts university in Wichita Falls, Texas. In 2020 it had 5,141 undergraduate students. It is the state's only public institution focused on the liberal arts. History Founded in 1922 as Wichita Falls Junior College, it was renamed Hardin Junior College in 1937 when it moved to its present location off Taft Boulevard. In 1946, a senior division was added and it was renamed Hardin College. In January 1950, the name changed to Midwestern University, with the junior college division remaining Hardin Junior College. In March 1948, the university became a member of the Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. Lake Kickapoo is a reservoir located on the North Fork Little Wichita River in the Red River Valley, Red River Basin of Archer County, Texas. It is neighbored by Archer City, Texas (population of 1,834) and Wichita Falls, Texas (population of 104,553) which reside within the Central Great Plains (ecoregion), Central Great Plains ecoregion. Hydrology Lake Kickapoo reservoir was created by the impoundment of North Fork Little Wichita River, its only in-flow tributary, in 1946. The out-flow tributaries are Kickapoo Creek, Brier Creek, and Slippery Creek. It has a mean water level of 1,038 feet, surface area of 4,312 acres, and elevation of 1,060 feet above sea level as of 2022. The storage capacity, as of October 29, 2022, is 51,596 acre-feet with a maximum capacity of 86,345 acre-feet. Kamay, Texas
Kamay ( ) is an unincorporated community in Wichita County, Texas, United States. It had an estimated population of 640 in 2000. Kamay is part of the Wichita Falls, Texas Metropolitan Statistical Area. Geography Kamay is located on State Highway 258, twelve miles (19 km) southwest of Wichita Falls in southwestern Wichita County. Its elevation is above sea level. History Development in the area began in 1912 when Joseph A. Kemp, W. Munger, and Reese S. Allen formed a land company that purchased of Wichita River valley land for resale. By the 1920s, investors had turned their attention to oil exploration and the K-M-A Oil Company was established. The name was formed from each of the three principals' last names. The community that developed around the oil fields became known as Kemp City by 1928. Within ten years, more than 100 wells were operating in and around Kemp City.
