MV Summit Venture
The MV ''Summit Venture'' was a bulk carrier that is best known for colliding into the Sunshine Skyway Bridge in 1980. It was built in 1976 by Oshima Shipbuilding Co. of Nagasaki, Japan. She was long, had a breadth of , deadweight of 33,912 tons, gross weight of 19,735 tons and a net weight of 13,948 tons. After being repaired from colliding into the Sunshine skyway bridge it would go through several different owners. It would sink off Vietnamese coast in 2010 under the name of ''Jian Mao 9''. 1980 incident ''Summit Venture'' was involved in a fatal collision with the original Sunshine Skyway Bridge in Tampa Bay, Florida, on May 9, 1980. While negotiating a required turn in the narrow channel during a storm, the radar failed, and the freighter struck one of the piers on the southbound span of the bridge. of the steel cantilever highway bridge collapsed, causing a Greyhound bus, a truck, and six other vehicles to fall into the bay. Bayfront Center was an indoor arena located in St. Petersburg, Florida that hosted many concerts, sporting and other events. Depending on the configuration, it could hold up to 8,600 people. Howard Frankland Bridge
The W. Howard Frankland Bridge is the central bridge spanning Old Tampa Bay from St. Petersburg, Florida to Tampa, Florida. It is one of three bridges connecting Hillsborough County and Pinellas County; the others being Gandy Bridge and Courtney Campbell Causeway. The bridge carries Interstate 275 and is by far the most traveled of the bay's bridges. Work began in fall 2020 to rebuild this bridge with separate pedestrian and bicycle lanes, with completion expected in late 2025. The new bridge will be north of the existing bridge. This allows traffic to use the old bridge while the new wider bridge is under construction. The existing southbound bridge will be converted to northbound lanes, once the new bridge is completed. Sunshine Skyway Bridge
The Bob Graham Sunshine Skyway Bridge, often referred to as the Sunshine Skyway Bridge or the Sunshine Skyway, consists of a pair of long beam bridges with a central cable-stayed bridge that spans Lower Tampa Bay to connect St. Petersburg, Florida to Terra Ceia. The current Sunshine Skyway opened in 1987 and is the second bridge of that name on the site. It was designed by the Figg & Muller Engineering Group and built by the American Bridge Company.
