''Time of Desire'' or ''The Horse Dealer's Daughters'' (Swedish: ''Hästhandlarens flickor'') is a 1954 Swedish drama film directed by Egil Holmsen and starring Barbro Larsson, Margaretha Löwler and George Fant.Wright p.120-121 It was shot at the Sundbyberg Studios of Europa Film in Stockholm and on location around Örsundsbro in Uppsala County. It was based on a 1935 short story by Artur Lundkvist. The film's sets were designed by the art director Arne Åkermark. In 1959 it was released on the American art house market by Janus Films. Synopsis Two daughters of a roguish horse trader have very different personalities but are emotionally close. When one of them takes up with a young man she encounters it drives her sister jealous. Egil Holmsen
''Egil'' Sophus Severen Holmsen (February 15, 1917 – May 30, 1990) was a Swedish film director, screenwriter, journalist, author and actor. He was the younger brother of author Sverre Holmsen. Career Holmsen initially worked as a journalist until he transitioned into the film industry as an actor. He debuted in Alf Sjöberg's ''Home from Babylon'' in 1941. He continued to work as an actor during the 1940s, until he began to direct and write scrips for various major production companies. In 1947, he debuted as a director with ''The Battle for the Coffee'' and as a screenwriter with ''City in the South''. Holmsen followed with three coming-of-age films in the 1950s, ''Dangerous Curve'' in 1952, followed by ''Marianne'' and ''Speedfever'' in 1953. All three films depicted young teenagers in the criminal underworld of Stockholm. Gösta Bernhard
Gösta Bernhard (26 September 1910 – 4 January 1986) was a Swedish actor, film director and screenwriter. He appeared in more than 30 films between 1936 and 1975. He also directed 17 films between 1947 and 1975. He was born in Västervik, Kalmar County, Sweden and died in Stockholm, Sweden. Biography At a young age, Gösta Bernhard was called "Västervik's Karl Gerhard", comparing him to the famous revue actor. Bernhard was a skilled lyricist and came to be responsible for a number of revues. In 1930 he moved to Stockholm. As early as 1933, he met Stig Bergendorff and the two began a collaboration, first with Bellevue-Fredhällsrevyn, which was run by two sports clubs, then under joint auspices with the so-called crazy revues in 1941–1963 at the now demolished Casinoteatern at Bryggargatan in Stockholm.
