Timberyard Records
Timberyard Records was a pioneering record label in the Australian independent music movement of the 1980s. Timberyard Records were established in 1985 in Newtown, New South Wales by Michael Danias. Initially releasing prominent underground Sydney acts such as Box the Jesuit, Candy Harlots, The Dubrovniks, Girl Monstar, Johnny Teen and the Broken Hearts and the Zen Genies. In 1989 the label released a Christmas compilation, ''Rockin' Bethlehem'', which featured a number of bands from the label, including The Dubrovniks, Ratcat, Girl Monstar, Steve Kilbey ( The Church), Damien Lovelock (The Celibate Rifles), The Jackson Code and Lime Spiders. Proceeds from the sales of the album went to the Camperdown Children's Hospital. The Celibate Rifles
The Celibate Rifles were an Australian punk rock band which formed in 1979 with a line-up that included mainstays Dave Morris on rhythm guitar and Kent Steedman on lead guitar, within a year they were joined by Damien Lovelock on lead vocals. They released their first album, ''Sideroxylon'', in April 1983 on the Hot Records label. The band has toured both America and Europe extensively, and released their ninth studio album, ''Beyond Respect'' on 19 July 2004. In 1985 the group's style was described as post-Radio Birdman sound which is "a combination of fast, guitar-driven, hard rock and power pop". Paul Maurice Kelly (born 13 January 1955) is an Australian rock music singer-songwriter and guitarist. He has performed solo, and has led numerous groups, including the Dots, the Coloured Girls, and the Messengers. He has worked with other artists and groups, including associated projects Professor Ratbaggy and Stardust Five. Archie Roach
Archibald William Roach (8 January 1956 – 30 July 2022) was an Australian singer, songwriter and Aboriginal Australian, Aboriginal activist. Often referred to as "Uncle Archie", Roach was a Gunditjmara and Western Bundjalung people, Bundjalung elder who campaigned for the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. His wife and musical partner was the singer Ruby Hunter (1955–2010). Roach first became known for the song "Took the Children Away", which featured on his debut solo album, ''Charcoal Lane'', in 1990. He toured around the globe, headlining and opening shows for Joan Armatrading, Bob Dylan, Billy Bragg, Tracy Chapman, Suzanne Vega and Patti Smith. The Screaming Tribesmen were an Australian rock band formed in Brisbane, Queensland in 1981 by mainstay Mick Medew on lead vocals and lead guitar. Edmund "Ed" Kuepper (born 20 December 1955) is a German-born Australian guitarist, vocalist and songwriter. He co-founded the punk band The Saints (1973–78), the experimental post-punk group Laughing Clowns (1979–85) and the grunge-like The Aints! (1991–94, 2017–present). He has also recorded over a dozen albums as a solo artist using a variety of backing bands. His highest charting solo album, ''Honey Steel's Gold'', appeared in November 1991 and reached No. 28 on the ARIA Albums Chart. Painters And Dockers
Painters and Dockers are a rock band formed in Melbourne, Australia in 1982. Paul Stewart, singer-songwriter and trumpet player, Dave Pace (vocals and trumpet) and Mick Morris (vocals and sax) are all original members in the band which was named for the Federated Ship Painters and Dockers Union when they performed an early gig at a pub rock venue in Port Melbourne frequented by the union's members. Some members of the band went on to form the Dili Allstars. Their best-performing album ''Kiss My Art'', peaked in the top 30 of the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) albums charts in 1988. The Falling Joys
Falling Joys are an Australian alternative rock band formed in Canberra in 1985. The original line-up included Suzie Higgie on lead vocals and guitar and Stuart G. Robertson on bass guitar. By the end of 1988 Higgie and Robertson, now on guitar, were joined by Pat Hayes on bass guitar and vocals, and Pete Velzen on drums. They have released three albums, ''Wish List'' (1990), ''Psychohum'' (1992) and ''Aerial'' (1993). Both the latter two albums reached the ARIA Albums Chart Top 50.
