Tim Van Egmond
Timothy Layne Van Egmond (born May 31, 1969), is a former Major League Baseball pitcher who played with the Boston Red Sox (1994–1995) and Milwaukee Brewers (1996). He batted and threw right-handed. A native of Shreveport, Louisiana, Van Egmond attended Jacksonville State University. He was selected in the 17th round of the 1991 amateur draft by the Boston Red Sox. His first professional season, 1992, was arguably his best as a professional pitcher. Pitching for the Lynchburg Red Sox of the class A "Carolina League, Van Egmond posted a 12–4 record with a 3.41 ERA in 28 games, 27 of which were starts. He followed that with a 6–12 record and 3.98 ERA for the AA New Britain Red Sox of the Eastern League in 1993. He was assigned to the Pawtucket Red Sox, Boston's AAA affiliate in the International League, in 1994 and made 20 starts, going 9–5 with a 3.78 ERA in 119 innings. In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk. The International League (IL) is a Minor League Baseball league that operates in the United States. Along with the Pacific Coast League, it is one of two leagues playing at the Triple-A level, which is one grade below Major League Baseball (MLB). The league traces its roots to 1884, while the modern IL began in 1912. Following MLB's reorganization of the minor leagues in 2021, it operated as the Triple-A East for one season before switching back to its previous moniker in 2022. It is so named because throughout its history the International League had teams in Canada and Cuba as well as those in the United States. Since 2008, however, all of its teams have been based in the US. The Louisville Bats are a Minor League Baseball team of the International League (IL) and the Triple-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. They are located in Louisville, Kentucky, and are named in dual reference to the winged mammal and baseball bats, such as those manufactured locally under the Louisville Slugger brand. The Huntsville Stars were a Minor League Baseball team that played in Huntsville, Alabama, from 1985 to 2014.
