Tim Spooneybarger
Timothy Floyd Spooneybarger (born October 21, 1979) is an American former professional baseball relief pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Atlanta Braves and Florida Marlins. He batted and threw right-handed. Career Atlanta Braves Spooneybarger was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 29th round, with the 881st overall selection, of the 1998 Major League Baseball draft. He spent three seasons in the minors (playing for the rookie–level Danville Braves, Single–A Macon Braves, High–A Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Double–A Greenville Braves and Triple–A Richmond Braves) where he compiled an outstanding record of 11 wins, 2 losses and 16 saves with a 1.79 ERA. In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk. In baseball, a save (abbreviated SV or S) is credited to a pitcher who finishes a game for the winning team under certain prescribed circumstances. Most commonly a pitcher earns a save by entering in the ninth inning of a game in which his team is winning by three or fewer runs and finishing the game by pitching one inning without losing the lead. The number of saves or percentage of save opportunities successfully converted are oft-cited statistics of relief pitchers, particularly those in the closer role. The save statistic was created by journalist Jerome Holtzman in 1959 to "measure the effectiveness of relief pitchers" and was adopted as an official Major League Baseball (MLB) statistic in 1969. The Aberdeen IronBirds are a Minor League Baseball team based in the city of Aberdeen in Harford County, Maryland. They are the High-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles and compete in the South Atlantic League. They were previously members of the New York–Penn League from 1977 to 2020, and of the High-A East in 2021. Ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction, colloquially known as Tommy John surgery (TJS), is a surgical graft procedure where the ulnar collateral ligament in the medial elbow is replaced with either a tendon from elsewhere in the patient's body, or with one from a deceased donor.
