Tim Krohn
Tim Krohn (born 9 February 1965) is an author of Swiss literature, recipient of the 1994 Conrad-Ferdinand-Meyer-Preis. Born in Wiedenbrück, North Rhine-Westphalia, Krohn grew up in Glarus. He interrupted his studies of German language, Philosophy and Politology in 1992 and has been working as a freelance author based in Zürich. Swiss Literature
As there is no dominant national language, the four main languages of French, Italian, German and Romansch form the four branches which make up a literature of Switzerland. The original Swiss Confederation, from its foundation in 1291 up to 1798, gained only a few French-speaking districts in what is now the Canton of Fribourg, and so the German language dominated. During that period the Swiss vernacular literature was in German, although in the 18th century, French became fashionable in Bern and elsewhere. At that time, Geneva and Lausanne were not yet Swiss: Geneva was an ally and Vaud a subject land. The French branch does not really begin to qualify as Swiss writing until after 1815, when the French-speaking regions gained full status as Swiss cantons. NRW Literatur im Netz is a German internet database with short biographies of persons who have lived or worked in North Rhine-Westphalia. The Westphälische Literaturbüro (Westphalian office for literature) in Unna operates the biggest database for literary production in North Rhine-Westphalia, continuously updated since 2001. The database presents authors from NRW with detailed portraits as well as literary institutions and publishers. Content Currently the database contains the bio-bibliographical data of more than 600 authors from North Rhine-Westphalia. It also offers text samples or press photographs, of the writers for download. Amongst other things, it allows searches for authors by region, genre, gender or in alphabetical order.
