Tim Broyd
Professor Tim Broyd is an English civil engineer who was elected the 152nd President of the Institution of Civil Engineers, taking office in November 2016. Early career Broyd was born in Carshalton in Surrey, grew up in Wallington and Addington and went to Trinity School, in Shirley. After leaving Trinity School, he went to the University of Birmingham to study science and civil engineering, completing a PhD in 1979. Professional career He then began employment at design, engineering and project management consultancy Atkins in Epsom, where he stayed for 20 years, including spells as chief engineer and group research and innovation director. During the early 2000s (2002-2007) he was chief executive at the Construction Industry Research Information Association (CIRIA), before joining the Halcrow Group (later CH2M), where he was group technology, innovation and sustainability director until 2012. The Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng) is the United Kingdom's national academy of engineering. Robert James Mair, Baron Mair, (born 20 April 1950) is a Geotechnical engineering, geotechnical engineer and Emeritus Sir Kirby Laing Professor of Civil Engineering and director of research at the University of Cambridge. He is Head of the Cambridge Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction (CSIC). He was Master of Jesus College, Cambridge, from 2001 to 2011 and a fellow of St John's College, Cambridge, from 1998 to 2001. In 2014 he was elected a vice president of the Institution of Civil Engineers and on 1 November 2017 became the Institution's president for 2017–18, its 200th anniversary year. This is a list of presidents of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). The president's role is to represent the institution and to promote the profession to the public. The first president was Thomas Telford who had the office bestowed upon him for life in recognition of his contributions to the civil engineering profession. It became a biennial office with the election of William Cubitt, Sir William Cubitt in 1849 and an annual office with the election of George Berkley (engineer), Sir George Berkley in 1891, which it has remained since. On 18 December 1956 Harold Gourley died just six weeks after assuming the office in November. Warlingham is a village in the Tandridge district of Surrey, England, south of the centre of London and east of the county town, Guildford. John Armitt
Sir John Alexander Armitt (born 2 February 1946) is an English civil engineer, and current chairman of the UK's National Infrastructure Commission. From 2007 Armitt was chairman of the Olympic Delivery Authority, the body which successfully built the venues, facilities and infrastructure for the 2012 Olympic Games. He was president of the Institution of Civil Engineers for 2015–16, and is president of the Smeatonian Society of Civil Engineers for 2022. He is also chairman of the Council of the City and Guilds of London Institute and took office in October 2012. BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method), first published by the Building Research Establishment (BRE) in 1990, is the world's longest established method of assessing, rating, and certifying the sustainability of buildings.
