Tiger (band)
Tiger were an English indie rock band from Princes Risborough and London, England, who were formed in 1996.Strong, Martin C.: "The Great Alternative & Indie Discography", 1999, Canongate, Tiger quickly got British press attention after their debut and single "Shining in the Wood" was played on BBC Radio 1. The musical climate of the time was dominated by Britpop and retro bands influenced by Oasis. Tiger, who were characterised by fuzzy guitars and multiple keyboards, were quickly held up as part of a new alternative. The band had two keyboardists using synthesizers and used droning song structures similar to Stereolab and Neu!, but with a stronger pop element. The band were often criticised for their (lack of) fashion sense: they wore outdated clothes and at least two members of the band had mullet haircuts, which, although they became fashionable, were out of place at the time. Princes Risborough
Princes Risborough () is a market town in Buckinghamshire, England, about south of Aylesbury and north west of High Wycombe. It lies at the foot of the Chiltern Hills, at the north end of a gap or pass through the Chilterns, the south end of which is at West Wycombe. The A4010 road follows this route from West Wycombe through the town and then on to Aylesbury. Historically it was both a manor and an ecclesiastical parish, of the same extent as the manor, which comprised the present ecclesiastical parish of Princes Risborough (excluding Ilmer) and also the present ecclesiastical parish of Lacey Green, which became a separate parish in the 19th century. Stereolab
Stereolab are an Anglo- French avant-pop band formed in London in 1990. Led by the songwriting team of Tim Gane and Lætitia Sadier, the group's music combines influences from krautrock, lounge and 1960s pop music, often incorporating a repetitive motorik beat with heavy use of vintage electronic keyboards and female vocals sung in English and French. Their lyrics have political and philosophical themes influenced by the Surrealist and Situationist movements. On stage, they play in a more feedback-driven and guitar-oriented style. The band also draw from funk, jazz and Brazilian music, and were one of the first artists to be dubbed "post-rock". They are regarded among the most innovative and influential groups of the 1990s. Rosaria (album)
''Rosaria'' is the second and final studio album by the British band Tiger. It was released on CD only in 1999 and includes the singles "Friends" and "Girl From the Petrol Station", the latter of which was aborted prior to release. The album was produced by Stephen Street, with the exception of "Birmingham" and "Bee Song" which were produced by Donald Ross Skinner. The art direction was produced by Stephen Male with graphic design by Latifah Cornelius and painting by lead vocalist Dan Laidler. Having been dropped by Island sub-label Trade 2 soon after the release of "Friends" in the autumn of 1998, the album was released to little fanfare and publicity on CD by the small Tugboat Record label in May 1999. The group had been touring the album in support of Pulp on a UK tour. Losing the impetus and financial backing to continue, the group split up shortly after the release of ''Rosaria''. Bar/None Records
Bar/None Records is an independent record label based in Hoboken, New Jersey. Early history Tom Prendergast started Bar/None in early 1986 in Hoboken, New Jersey. Having previously worked in pirate radio and booked and promoted bands in his native Ireland, Prendergast moved to Hoboken in 1982. The first release on Bar/None was by Rage to Live, whose leader, Glenn Morrow, soon became a partner in the label. Morrow had already built a network of contacts in the alternative music community having toured nationally with his previous band, The Individuals, and had also worked in the A&R department of Warner Bros. and as the managing editor of ''New York Rocker'' magazine. In 2000, Prendergast left New Jersey and moved back to Ireland, sold his shares to Morrow. The Bar/None debut album of They Might Be Giants sold more than 100,000 copies and their follow-up, ''Lincoln'', more than doubled those sales. Shining In The Wood
''Shining in the Wood'' is an extended play by the British band Tiger. Released in the US to good reviews, the EP collects together the title track and its two B-sides from the "Shining in the Wood" UK single and the three B-sides from the "Race" single. The EP was produced by Daren Eskriett and the band-themselves, with the exception of "Honey Friends" which was produced by the band with Louis Jones. The EP was a useful companion to the ''We Are Puppets'' studio album, as none of the tracks had previously been released in the US. "Where's the Love?" and "Bicycle" originally appeared on the "Shining in the Wood" single released June 1996 (Fierce Panda Records). ''We Are Puppets'' includes the singles "Race", "My Puppet Pal" and "On the Rose", the latter of which was re-recorded for single release. The album was produced by Daren Eskriett and the band-themselves, with the exception of "My Puppet Pal" which was produced by the band with Pete Briquette. The Official Albums Chart is a list of albums ranked by physical and digital sales and (from March 2015) audio streaming in the United Kingdom. It was published for the first time on 22 July 1956 and is compiled every week by the Official Charts Company (OCC) on Fridays (previously Sundays). It is broadcast on BBC Radio 1 (top 5) and found on the OCC website as a Top 100 or on UKChartsPlus as a Top 200, with positions continuing until all sales have been tracked in data only available to industry insiders. However, even though number 100 was classed as a hit album (as in the case of The Guinness Book of British Hit Albums) in the 1980s until January 1989, since the compilations were removed this definition was changed to Top 75 with follow-up books such as The Virgin Book of British Hit Albums book only including this data. Radio Massacre International
Radio Massacre International is a trio of British musicians, Steve Dinsdale (Keyboards and Drums), Duncan Goddard (Keyboards and Bass), and Gary Houghton (Guitar, Synth). They specialize in improvisational experimental electronic music, utilising vintage synthesizers and sampled sounds alongside electric guitar. They are also exponents of the mellotron keyboard. More recently, they have begun to incorporate Bass Guitar and Drums by varying degrees in an attempt to stretch musical boundaries within the confines of a three-piece. Their music has been described alternatively as ambient music, space rock, Krautrock, New Age, Berlin School, and various other terms, although the band itself prefers the label "organic music". Stephen Street
Stephen Brian Street (born 29 March 1960 in Hackney, London) is an English music producer best known for his work with The Smiths, The Cranberries and Blur. Street collaborated with Morrissey on his debut album ''Viva Hate'' following the split of The Smiths. More recently he has worked with Kaiser Chiefs, Babyshambles and The Courteeners. For a time, he was managed by Gail Colson's company Gailforce Management. In February 2020, Street received the award for Outstanding Contribution to UK Music at the Music Producer's Guild Awards. Pulp (band)
Pulp are an English rock band formed in Sheffield in 1978. Their best-known line-up from their heyday (1992–1997) consisted of Jarvis Cocker (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Russell Senior (guitar, violin), Candida Doyle (keyboards), Nick Banks (drums, percussion), Steve Mackey (bass) and Mark Webber (guitar, keyboards).
