Tierra Amarilla is a Chilean commune and city in Copiapó Province, Atacama Region. According to the 2012 census, the commune population was 12,898 and has an area of 11,191 km2. Demographics According to the 2002 census of the National Statistics Institute, Tierra Amarilla had 12,888 inhabitants (7,277 men and 5,611 women). Of these, 8,578 (66.6%) lived in urban areas and 4,310 (33.4%) in rural areas. The population grew by 9.9% (1,164 persons) between the 1992 and 2002 censuses. Isabel Allende (politician)
María Isabel Allende Bussi (, , ; born 18 January 1945) is a Chilean politician. A member of the Socialist Party and the youngest daughter of former president of Chile Salvador Allende and Hortensia Bussi, Allende served as a deputy from 1994 to 2010 and in March 2010 she became a Senator for the Atacama Region. Alto del Carmen is a Chilean commune and village in Huasco Province, Atacama Region. The commune spans an area of . The commune has an economy based on agriculture, in particular grapes for pisco, and mining. The discovery of valuable black marble in the commune was announced on January 2025. Demographics According to the 2002 census of the National Statistics Institute, Alto del Carmen had 4,840 inhabitants (2,629 men and 2,211 women), making the commune an entirely rural area. Huasco, Chile
Huasco () is a Chilean city and commune, in the Huasco Province, Atacama Region. It is the central town of a mining district dominated by medium-scale mining. The port city of Huasco is located 50 km west of Vallenar and close to the town of ''Huasco Bajo'', which lies on the southern bank of the Huasco River and only a few kilometers from its mouth. The coastal route between Huasco Bajo and Carrizal Bajo provides one of the two accesses to Llanos de Challe National Park. The port was used between 1851 and 1873 to ship copper ore, copper regulus, alpaca wool and hides round Cape Horn to Swansea, Glamorgan and Wales. Vallenar is a city and commune in Atacama Region, Chile. It is the capital of the Huasco Province and is located in the valley of the Huasco River. Vallenar has 52,000 inhabitants. Its main activities are farming and mining. It was founded as San Ambrosio de Ballenary by Ambrose O'Higgins in 1789, after his birthplace in Ballynary in County Sligo, Ireland. Llanos de Challe National Park is located northwest of the city of Vallenar. Caldera, Chile
Caldera is a port city and commune in the Copiapó Province of the Atacama Region in northern Chile. It has a harbor protected by breakwaters, being the port city for the productive mining district centering on Copiapó to which it is connected by the first railroad constructed in Chile.
