Tiemann Newell Horn
Tiemann Newell Horn (January 8, 1868 – May 5, 1923) was a career officer in the United States Army. A veteran of World War I, he attained the rank of brigadier general. Early life Tiemann Newell Horn was born to Daniel Tiemann Horn and Frances (Carpron) Horn in Brooklyn, New York on January 18, 1869. He attended the schools of Plainfield, New Jersey, and was an 1886 graduate of Plainfield High School. Horn attended the United States Military Academy and graduated number nine of 65 in the Class of 1891. Military career Horn was commissioned to the 3rd Cavalry and transferred to the 2nd Artillery. From 1903 to 1906, Horn was the ordnance officer and artillery engineer for the Southern Artillery District in New York. Horn also participated in the Jamestown Exposition in 1907. Jamestown Exposition
The Jamestown Exposition was one of the many world's fairs and expositions that were popular in the United States in the early part of the 20th century. Commemorating the 300th anniversary of the founding of Jamestown in the Virginia Colony, it was held from April 26 to December 1, 1907, at Sewell's Point on Hampton Roads, in Norfolk, Virginia. It celebrated the first permanent English settlement in the present United States. In 1975, the 20 remaining exposition buildings were included on the National Register of Historic Places as a national historic district. The Naval and Military Order of the Spanish War was a short lived military society formed by American officers who had served during the Spanish–American War. History The Naval and Military Order of the Spanish-American War (NMOSAW) was founded on February 2, 1899 in New York City by Lieutenant Walter J. Sears, USN. There were 98 charter members. Colonel Theodore Roosevelt, then Governor of New York, was elected as the Order's first president. By 1908 the Order had over 1,200 members and was active in the era prior to World War I. It seems to have ceased to exist prior to 1936, as the last National Bulletin of the Order was published in 1935.
