Tibor Kneif
Tiburtius Tibor Kneif (9 October 1932 – 26 July 2016) was a German-Hungarian lawyer and musicologist. Life Born in Bratislava, Kneif, who after studying law received his doctorate from the Faculty of Law in Budapest in 1955, continued his studies at the Faculty of Law in Göttingen after emigrating to the Federal Republic of Germany in 1956, but from 1959 he turned his attention to musicology, philosophy and Romance studies and received his doctorate again in 1963, this time with the musicological topic ''Zur Entstehung der musikalischen Mediävistik'' with Heinrich Husmann. With a scholarship from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft he worked at the Frankfurt Institute for Social Research with Theodor W. Adorno from 1965 to 1967. In 1971 he completed his habilitation in musicology under Rudolf Stephan at Freie Universität Berlin and was appointed professor there in 1973 (1997: retired university professor). The ''Archiv für Musikwissenschaft'' is a quarterly German-English-speaking trade magazine devoted to music history and historical musicology, which publishes articles by well-known academics and young scholars. It was founded in 1918 as the successor of the ''Sammelbände der Internationalen Musikgesellschaft'' by Max Seiffert, Johannes Wolf and Max Schneider, who were also the first editors. It was under the patronage of the Fürstliches Institut für musikwissenschaftliche Forschung zu Bückeburg. The first two volumes 1918/1919 and 1919/1920 were published by Breitkopf & Härtel, then the volumes 1921 to 1926 by . With the 8th volume the publication of the journal was stopped in 1927, but resumed in 1952 with the 9th volume. François Antoine Camille Durutte, comte Durutte (15 October 1803 – 24 September 1881), was a French composer and music theorist. Life Born in Ypres, the son of General Pierre François Joseph Durutte, he was destined for a military career. He studied at the Lycée Louis-le-Grand and then at the École Polytechnique both in Paris from 1823 to 1825. It was only after the death of his father in 1827 that he turned to music. He conceived a mathematical musical theory based on the work of Josef Hoëné-Wronski and which he presented in his books ''Esthétique musical'' (1855) and ''Technie harmonique'' (1876). Carl Dahlhaus
Carl Dahlhaus (10 June 1928 – 13 March 1989) was a German musicologist who was among the leading postwar musicologists of the mid to late 20th-century. A prolific scholar, he had broad interests though his research focused on 19th- and 20th-century classical music, both areas in which he made significant advancements. However, he remains best known in the English-speaking world for his writings on Wagner. Dahlhaus wrote on many other composers, including Josquin, Gesualdo, Bach and Schoenberg. He spent the bulk of his career as head of the Berlin Institute of Technology's musicology department, which he raised to an international standard.
