Tianchi Lake (Tianshan)
Tianchi (, ) is an alpine lake in Xinjiang, Northwest China, situated at . The name (天池) literally means Heavenly Lake and can refer to several lakes in mainland China and Taiwan. This Tianchi lies on the north side of the Bogda Shan ("Mountain of God", ''Bogda'' is a Mongolian word meaning "God") range of the Tian Shan ("Mountain of Heaven"), about south of Fukang and east (straight-line distance) of Ürümqi. It is an alpine drift lake shaped in the Quaternary Glacier period. Formerly known as Yaochi ("Jade Lake"), it was named Tianchi in 1783 by Mingliang, the Qing Dynasty, Qing Commander of Urumqi Command. The lake is above sea level, covering , deep at the deepest point. In 2006, it was designated for four years of restoration work at a cost of 800 million Renminbi, yuan (US$100 million). Bogda Peak
Bogda Peak or Bogda Feng (; cf. mn, Bogd Uul, sometimes referred to as ''Mount Bogda'') is the highest mountain in the Bogda Shan range, in the eastern Tian Shan mountains, China, at and the northernmost 5,000 m (16,400 ft) or higher peak in Eurasia. Bogda Peak is a challenging climb due to its steep relief. Its sides slope at angles of between 70° and 80°. It was first climbed in 1981 by an 11-person team from Kyoto.
