Tiago Mayan Gonçalves
Tiago Mayan Gonçalves (born 5 March 1977) is a Portuguese politician who represents Liberal Initiative. Background and personal life Mayan was born in Porto, on 5 March 1977. By profession he is a lawyer and studied at Catholic University of Portugal. He is son of a couple of chemical engineers. His father worked in business management, and his mother was a researcher and teacher. In his free time Mayan has been volunteering at Reefood since 2014. He is also an avid sailor. Political career Mayan was one of the founders of Liberal Initiative. In the 2021 Presidential election Mayan received 134,484 votes (3.22 %). Rui de Carvalho de Araújo Moreira (born 8 August 1956) is a Portuguese businessman and politician, currently serving as Mayor of Porto since 2013. While officially an independent, he has been supported by the CDS – People's Party since 2013 and the Liberal Initiative (Portugal), Liberal Initiative since 2021. Local elections in Portugal were held on 26 September 2021. The election consisted of three separate elections in the 308 Portuguese municipalities: the election for the Municipal Chamber (the executive branch of the municipality), whose winner is elected mayor; another election for the Municipal Assembly (the deliberative branch of the municipality); and an election for the Parish Assembly (the deliberative branch of the lower-level parish), whose winner is elected parish president. 2021 Portuguese Presidential Election
The 2021 presidential election was held in Portugal on 24 January. The incumbent President, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, was reelected for a second term. The election was held during the COVID-19 pandemic, and Portugal was under a lockdown as of election day. President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa was reelected by a landslide, winning 60.7% of the votes. He won every district in the country and all 308 municipalities, a result which happened for the first time ever in Portuguese democracy; he won 3,083 parishes out of 3,092. The election also marked the rise of right-wing candidate André Ventura, leader of CHEGA, who polled 3rd with almost 12% of the votes.
